Women's Basketball Outscored by 24 Points in Second Half, Fall to Nationally-Ranked Holy Family on the Road

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. –  A defensive first half of basketball for Post University Women's Basketball saw the Eagles leading 20th in the nation Holy Family University at halftime in Saturday's road conference matchup, but a 43-point second half by the Tigers helped them net four double-digit scorers in what would be a 23-point victory, 68-45, dropping the Eagles to 1-2 in conference play this season.

THE BASICS

Post University 45, #20 Holy Family University 68

Post University (2-12, 1-2 CACC)

#20 Holy Family University (10-3, 2-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Post offense got things started early as freshman guard Kamryn Porter got a layup with an and-one opportunity which was the start of a 5-0 beginning to the affair for the Eagles. The lead for Post would peak at six points with 6:20 left in the first quarter as senior guard Naj White made one of her two free throws from the line, making it an 8-2 game, before the Tigers answered back to pull within two, 10-9, in a frame that saw the Eagles carry just a two-point advantage, 15-13, into the second following a three-point play for junior guard Kaelah Carter as time expired.

That would be the start of a 7-0 run for Holy Family which saw them take their first lead of the affair when Carter hit another layup and it was followed up by a layup from junior guard Taylor Hinkle shortly after. That would lead to a back-and-forth quarter in which neither side led by more than two points and with 32 seconds left, freshman guard Jasmine Day-Cox's jumper gave Post the halftime lead by just one point, 26-25. At the half, both teams were struggling to shoot the ball with the Eagles going 11-for-30 from the floor (36.6%) while the Tigers were just 9-for-29 (31%) overall in what was a defensive first 20 minutes of action.

But the barrage of offense would come in the second half for Holy Family who shot over 50% during the course of the next two quarters, going 17-for-32 overall while making 3-of-12 threes leading to 43 points. Out of the break, it was Post who extended their lead to four points with a three from White and after graduate guard Erin Harris knocked down a jumper with 7:13 to go in the third, the ensuing 15-0 run by the Tigers was all they needed to take a double-digit lead and run away with the game.

Senior guard Jayden Burns would make it a nine-point game, 45-36, with 21 seconds left in the third as would White to start the fourth, but trailing 47-38 with 9:36 left in regulation, another lengthy 15-0 run put the game away for good in a 23-point victory for Holy Family, 68-45. Freshman center Lauren Palangio led all scorers on the floor in today's game with 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting off the bench while sophomore guard Hannah Finnerty paced the Eagles with 11 points on 4-for-13 shooting followed by White with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting in the loss.
