HOW IT HAPPENED
Felician would only lead twice throughout the first two quarters with the last one coming at the 7:30 mark of the first quarter in which they were ahead 6-3 on a jumper from sophomore guard Katherine Ritchie. Moments later, senior guard
Jayden Burns' three tied the game at six all and the Golden Falcons would never be able to take the lead back. Burns would score seven points in the first half on 2-for-5 shooting with two threes while Rossignol scored 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting to lead all scorers.
Freshman center Stephanie Formby led Felician at the break with 10 points in 18 minutes on 4-for-5 shooting, but the Golden Falcons would fall behind by as many as 13 points, 32-19, with 6:06 left in the second quarter. In response, a 5-0 run by Ritchie and Formby brought the deficit down to single digits, and another 5-0 run while trailing by 10 points brought the Golden Falcons the closest they would get the remainder of the half, 36-31, with 1:12 left.
Post would close out the half with a jumper from sophomore guard
Hannah Finnerty, aiding the way to a seven-point halftime lead, 38-31. As a team, the Golden Falcons went 44.8% from the floor with one three while the Eagles went 34.2% from the field with four threes made and the defense forced 11 turnovers.
In a wild turn of events in the third quarter, Post would take a 16-point lead with 6:21 remaining in the frame, 49-33, before a furious comeback by the Felician to the tune of a 19-0 run over the next five minutes gave the Golden Falcons a three-point edge, 52-49. With the quarter ending tied at 52 all, the Eagles shot just 25%, making 4-of-16 shots and hitting five of their six free throws for a total of 14 points.
During the 19-0 run, Felician was led by sophomore forward Ane Valle with 11 points followed by Ritchie with five points as the duo finished the third with 17 points and 16 points respectively, until the run would be broken up by Burns with three free throws in the final 1:20 of the quarter that brought the game even.
Enter Rossignol in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles run away with the game once more, this time for good as her 11 points helped spur a season-high 27-point quarter for Post to eventually bring home a 15-point victory, 79-64. Burns started things off with a pair of free throw makes which spurred a 4-0 run that gave the Eagles the lead and they would never look back. In their best shooting quarter of the game, Post shot 8-for-11 (72.7%) from the field, hitting both their threes and 9-of-10 (90%) free throws while Felician sputtered down the stretch to the tune of a 5-for-17 (29.4%) finish.
Before all was set and done, the Eagles led by as many as 17 points inside of a minute to go when graduate guard
Erin Harris hit a pair of free throws and a Formby layup by the Golden Falcons made it a 15-point finish in favor of Post.
