Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Michael Vesci, Director of Athletic Communications

Enright's Offense, Radovanov's Defense Send Women's Volleyball to 2-0 Conference Start

WATERBURY, Conn. – In the early part of the season, the conference schedule has been kind to Post University Volleyball in terms of the outcome each of their first two matches brought. In another dominant sweep that featured the Eagles having an attack percentage above the .400-mark, Post moved to 2-0 in conference play and back to .500 overall with a 3-0 win over Caldwell University in the Drubner Center on Tuesday night.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Caldwell University 0

Post University (6-6, 2-0 CACC)

Caldwell University (0-7, 0-2 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Once again, dominant was an understatement for an Eagles team that only trailed 1-0 in the first set and saw the match get tied twice at 1-1 in the first and third sets. Otherwise, the rest of the match was led by Post with Caldwell only being able to get within one point in the third set, 9-8, before the Eagles re-upped their lead on the way to victory.

Overall, the Cougars manufactured no service aces while Post had six and committed 20 errors to just six for the Eagles. By the end of the three sets, Caldwell's attack percentage was .000 compared to Post who had their second straight conference match in which their attack percentage toppled .400 with a .444 finish and 42 total kills.

Graduate outside hitters Sara Enright and Kristina Peric each led the game with 12 kills each while Enright attacked slightly better at .500 and Peric just below her with a .474 attack percentage. Junior libero Alyssa Groves was only able to tally 13 digs in the match which lasted just about an hour, moving her 351 digs away from Kerry Smith's all-time record. The rest of the way this season, Groves currently would need to average just under 22 digs a game in the regular season to break the record in the regular season finale against Bloomfield College.

Senior setter Maria Fernanda Branco continued her positive contributions in the assist category, finishing with a game-high 18 assists in the win while senior outside hitter Tamara Radovanov dominated on the defensive end with two block solos, six block assists, and a .400 attack percentage after generating seven kills which was the third-most on the team.

Like against Felician, Post took the first set big, 25-8, then continued that trend with a 25-10 win in set two before capping things off with a 25-14 victory in set three for the straight-set sweep. For the Cougars, who fell to 0-7 on the season with only two set wins to their name, junior outside hitter Wyette Schubert-Brown led the way with nine kills while sophomore libero Ava Railton had a team-high 11 digs in the loss.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • After having her double-digit kill streak snapped against Saint Michael's College, Kristina Peric picked up where she left off with 12 kills on 19 attempts with three errors for a .474 attack percentage
  • In both of their conference matches to start the season, Post University has finished with an over .440 attack percentage en route to their 2-0 start in which they have not dropped a set yet
  • Alyssa Groves tallied 13 digs in today's match putting her at 1,338 in her career, she is currently second all-time in digs in program history chasing only Kerry Smith (2005-08) who owns the all-time record with 1,689 career digs
  • Post University has now won six of the last seven matches against Caldwell with the last four wins being 3-0 sweeps and the last three overall being sweeps as well

WHO'S NEXT
Post University wastes no time hitting the Drubner Center court as they will face the University of New Haven tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM.
