Dominant From Start to Finish, Women's Volleyball Notches First Conference Win of Season

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – There is only one word to describe the opening match of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play for Post University Women's Volleyball. Dominance. With a few days off since their last match, the Eagles rolled into Felician University for their first conference match of the season with brand new uniforms in tow and put on a three-set clinic against the Golden Falcons that ended in a 3-0 sweep that lasted just 58 minutes.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Felician University 0

Post University (4-5, 1-0 CACC)

Felician University (2-7, 0-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Throughout the entirety of the match, the Eagles trailed just twice against the Golden Falcons with both of those instances coming in the third set during a 5-0 run for Felician which made it 7-6 and then briefly 8-7 before Post reclaimed the lead for good en route to their three-set match sweep. In what will now be unofficially considered the record for a set victory, the Eagles took the opening set by an impressive 25-3 score which ended on a 16-0 run led by freshman defensive specialist Alexa Arnold serving.

Set two was more of the same with a pair of 5-0 runs pacing the way for the Eagles to their 25-11 set win that saw the Golden Falcons only get within one point when the score was 7-6. The continued dominance trickled into set three outside of those two brief moments where Post trailed to complete the sweep with a 25-12 finish to the match and the third sweep in three years for the Eagles against Felician.

But the set scores only tell part of the story of Post's dominance in the match as the attacking numbers and limited errors tell the rest. Across all three sets, the Eagles attacked at a .494 clip which is the highest attack percentage since their .493 against Felician back on September 21st, 2016, and their highest in recorded program history dating back to records accessible since 2012.

As a team, set two would be Post's best attacking set with a .636 percentage and just one error. Across all three sets, the Eagles committed just five errors with four of those coming in the third set while the Golden Falcons committed 18 across all three sets and attacked at a -.033 percentage for the match.

Those five errors committed by Post are the fewest since September 17th, 2022, when they committed only four errors in a three-set win over Alliance University while the -.033 opponent attack percentage was the lowest since October 29th, 2022 when Goldey-Beacom College had a -.057 attack percentage.

Senior outside hitter Caley Harper and graduate outside hitter Sara Enright each had double-digit kills for Post with Harper having a game-high 14 kills on a .462 attack percentage, her highest in her career, while Enright had 13 kills and a career-high .600 attack percentage.

Junior libero Alyssa Groves had 24 more digs to move into a tie for fourth-most in program history alongside Janilee Alvarez while senior setter Maria Fernanda Branco led the team with 16 assists.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • With a .462 attack percentage, that is a new career high for Caley Harper who finished with a game-high 14 kills – Sarah Enright closed with 13 kills and a .600 attack percentage which is also a career-high for her, beating her previous high of .500 set against Pace University in 2022 with Southern Connecticut
  • In each of their last three wins against Felician University since 2022, Post University has swept the Golden Falcons, 3-0, while being swept and going to five sets in their two losses in that same span
  • With a 4-5 record this season, this is the best start for Post University since the 2016 season when they went 10-2 to start the year before finishing 26-6 overall
  • Alyssa Groves tallied 24 digs in today's match putting her at 1,266 in her career moving her past Kelly Hayes and Angie Arcadi for sixth and fifth-most in program history, Kerry Smith (2005-08) owns the all-time record with 1,689 career digs – Groves is now tied with Janilee Alvarez for fourth-most digs all-time and is on pace to have the second-most in program history by next Tuesday
