HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 2, Bloomfield College 5
A leadoff single for graduate outfielder
Samantha Riccardulli helped lead to the first run of the day for the Eagles as she would end up on third after a ground out and then a passed ball by sophomore right-hander Jocelyn Moody with two outs. Reaching on an error would be senior infielder
Lily Tomasiello, allowing Riccardulli to score and give Post a 1-0 lead after one.
Freshman left-hander
Devin Barnett had another solid start on the mound for the Eagles as she went four innings while allowing three runs on six hits with a strikeout. Bloomfield tied the game on a wild pitch in the second inning by the freshman before Tomasiello gave Post the lead back briefly with her RBI double in the third.
In Barnett's last inning of work, Moody would tie the game up at two with her solo home run to center field, and senior infielder Naya Olacio gave the Bears their first lead of the day, 3-2, with her RBI single before the Eagles escaped the inning. With senior right-hander
Jenny Riquelme taking over in the fifth, Bloomfield tacked on two more runs via a passed ball issued to senior catcher
Julianna Cicala and another RBI single from Moody.
On the mound, Moody stifled Post for the final three innings of work en route to her third victory of the season in the 5-2 game-one win for the Bears. The right-hander went a complete game in which she allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks in the win. In her two innings of relief, Riquelme allowed two runs on three hits and threw one wild pitch.
Game 2: Post University 7, Bloomfield College 2
Like in game one and for the third game in a row overall, the Eagles got on the scoreboard first as junior infielder
Bailey Dickenson scored senior outfielder
Julia Maida from third on her sacrifice fly to left and then two innings later helped her team's cause with an RBI single on the infield to make it a 2-0 game. Senior outfielder
Carli Perruso tacked on an insurance run in the fourth as well with her sacrifice fly to right field, extending the Post lead to three.
Dealing the big blow in the fifth was Tomasiello as her towering home run to left field put two more runs on the board for the Eagles. But the senior was not done there as her sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 7-0, putting Post on the brink of a mercy rule after senior shortstop
Caitlin DeAngelis plated junior infielder
Brooke Dickenson with her RBI single earlier on.
Two runs would come in for the Bears in the final two innings as a double steal and a passed ball made it a 7-2 edge for Post which they would hold on to for the win. In her start, Caldwell spun a nearly flawless game going all seven innings in which she allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits on just 75 pitches to get her first victory on the mound this year.
