MANCHESTER, N.H. -- While the time off for Post University Baseball has been ample over the last two weeks, it may not be the worst thing in the world for the Eagles. Heading into the CACC Tournament next weekend, Post will have played just five games since April 21st and gone 4-1 in that span while riding a four-game winning streak after their big 7-2 victory today. The win came against Southern New Hampshire University, a familiar foe this season for the Eagles, as this was the fourth meeting between the two teams and comes at a time when the Penmen are ranked fourth in the NCBWA regional poll and receiving votes nationally in the ABCA poll.
THE BASICS
Post University 7, Southern New Hampshire University 2
Post University (25-19)
(RV) Southern New Hampshire University (28-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior catcher Jimmy Brennan got the Eagles on the board right away in the first inning with his two-run home run to left off of sophomore right-hander Frankie DeMaro and the Post lead would grow to four runs by the third. That was when junior first baseman Chris Corchado singled home a run with his single and eventually senior shortstop Evan Cornwell scored on a double steal.
But the Penmen would answer back, scoring twice in the bottom of the frame with a two-run double by freshman outfielder Nater Wachter off senior right-hander Matt Semon, making it a 4-2 ballgame. But that would be all the offense for Southern New Hampshire as Matt Semon turned in another quality start after going six innings allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks to earn his fifth win of the season.
In relief, his brother, sophomore right-hander Nick Semon pitched a perfect final three innings in which he allowed no runs, no hits, and struck out five to earn his first collegiate save with the Eagles. Meanwhile, the Post offense tallied three more runs between the fifth and sixth innings with a Corchado RBI double, a single from graduate outfielder DJ Caron, and a bases-loaded walk for Cornwell to extend their winning streak to four straight games with a 7-2 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Michael Pavelchak has reached base safely in 25 straight games after going 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored

- Post University is now 19-7 on the season when they score the game's first run after scoring first today and remains 6-12 when allowing the first run of the game
- After never beating Southern New Hampshire as a Division II institution heading into the season, Post University has now won two of their last four games against the Penmen after losing the first 11 games between the two programs
WHO'S NEXT
