Men's Tennis Swept in Final Non-Conference Matchup of Spring Against St. Thomas Aquinas

SPARKILL, N.Y. – The season is beginning to wind down for Post University Men's Tennis and in their final non-conference matchup of the year, the Eagles traveled west to New York for a date with St. Thomas Aquinas College on Monday afternoon. While the win streak continued for junior Dante Despontin and graduate student Gustavo Kerber in the Doubles, the win streak for the Eagles as a team could not get going as they were swept by the Spartans, 7-0.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, St. Thomas Aquinas College 7

Post University (2-10)

St. Thomas Aquinas College (11-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The winning ways continued for Despontin and Kerber who were moved up to the #1 Doubles for this non-conference match, beating junior Ludovico Truffelli and sophomore Ondrej Sramek by a score of 6-3. However, Post would not be able to take the Doubles point with seniors Niklas Langenfeld and Anton Andersson losing 6-2 against freshman Nathan Yacar and sophomore Don Vinz Loninoque, 6-2, in the #2 Doubles.

The #3 Doubles would also finish with the same score as sophomores Tobias Strauss and Josh Cronje were defeated by freshmen Henry Ronnberg and Seth Newman to give the Spartans the Doubles point and a 1-0 lead into the Singles.

The Singles would all be taken handedly by St. Thomas Aquinas outside of the #3 Singles with Despontin and Sramek which went to three sets. In that one, Despontin took set one, 6-3, but dropped the next two sets by scores of 6-1 which snapped his three-game winning streak in the Singles.

Otherwise, it was straight set sweeps across the board for the Spartans with Kerber losing 6-2 and 6-3 in the #1 Singles against Lominoque followed by the #2 Singles going to Truffelli over Andersson, 6-0 and 6-3.

Moving down the board, Newman dispatched Langenfeld in the #4 Singles despite a hard-fought 6-4 win in set one, taking set two with a 6-0 sweep. Cronje and Ronnberg would be the opposite as a 6-1 win in set one for Ronnberg was followed up with a 7-6 win in set two for the freshman after winning the tiebreaker, 7-1.

Rounding out the 7-0 sweep for the Spartans was Lehmann in the #6 Singles as he took down Kolchanov, who lost his second straight Singles match after winning three in a row, 6-0 and 6-2.
