Women's Lacrosse Struggles to Find Rhythm Against Georgian Court, Postseason Hopes Hang in Balance

WATERBURY, Conn. –  The margin for error has become razor thin for Post University Women's Lacrosse if they want to get back into the CACC Tournament following a 22-3 home loss to Georgian Court University on Saturday morning. Sitting now at 2-4 in the conference and regardless of the outcome of the Bridgeport-Holy Family matchup taking place just after the Eagles kicked off, it has become must-win territory.

Having lost their matchups against both the Purple Knights and Tigers, Post does not hold the tiebreaker against either team which came into the day at 3-2 in the final two spots of the CACC Tournament's six qualifying spots meaning no matter the outcome of that game, they will still technically trail by two games to the loser with three games left while sitting basically three back of the winner without the tiebreaker.

In order for Post to get the five seed they would need to win out while Bridgeport or Jefferson, who are both 4-2, lost out, and to take the six seed from Holy Family, who currently holds it, they would have to make sure they are not tied in the standings with the Tigers at the end of the season.

THE BASICS

Post University 3, Georgian Court University 22

Post University (4-6, 2-4 CACC)

Georgian Court University (7-5, 4-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Graduate attacker Riley O'Connor and senior midfielder Remi Reinhardt started the scoring for the Lions with a goal each less than a minute apart before graduate attacker Gabrielle Fiora answered back to make it a 2-1 game. However, in a man-down situation, Georgian Court netted two more with O'Connor's second and the first of the day for freshman attacker Bryleigh Tejchman. Freshman midfielder Roksana Debicka briefly cut into the Post deficit, making it 4-2, before an 11-0 run to close out the half made it 15-2 in favor of the visitors.

By halftime, O'Connor already had seven goals and one assist, including three straight goals in the second quarter. Right behind her was Reinhardt with three goals of her own and junior attacker Isabel Raimondi with two goals but a whopping six assists for the Lions.

Graduate attacker Hailey McHenry tacked on a goal to start the second half for Post, but the Eagles would be held scoreless for the final 28:54 of the game while Georgian Court ended with seven more goals to come away with a 22-3 road victory.

The Lions doubled the Eagles in total shots by a margin of 35-16 in which senior goalie Lauren Bain made just nine saves on 31 shots compared to freshman goalie Cadence Gentile's nine saves on 12 shots for Georgian Court. All five of Post's free-position shots would come in the first quarter in which they converted on just one while the Lions had four across three different quarters and made three of their four opportunities.
