MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Playing in their first spring home game at the Edgewood Tennis & Bath Club in Middlebury, Connecticut, Post University Men's Tennis faltered in a tightly contested matchup against Adelphi University after dropping the doubles point narrowly and failing to secure four of the six singles matches on Wednesday afternoon. Still in search of their first win of the 2023-24 season, the Eagles fell to 0-5 with the 4-2 loss as the final match of the day was cut short due to rain.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A fiery trio of Doubles matches saw the Panthers take the point that was up for grabs after taking two of the three matches. Juniors Thomas Horsely and Marko Jovanovic teamed up in the #2 Doubles to stifle sophomore
Josh Cronje and graduate
Gustavo Kerber by a 6-4 final. A short time later, the doubles point was secured for Adelphi with senior Thiago Negrao and graduate Casey Recci's 6-3 win over junior
Dante Despontin and sophomore
Tobias Strauss in the #3 Doubles.
In comeback fashion for the #1 Doubles, seniors
Anton Andersson and
Niklas Langenfeld would look to at least give Post some momentum heading into the singles after winning their match 7-5 over juniors Reece Farrow and Hugo Munoz Reinoso.
Each of the singles matches would finish in order as Jovanovic quickly handled Kerber in the #1 Singles by 6-1 and 6-3 scores followed by Andersson getting Post on the board as a team with 6-3 and 6-4 wins in the #2 Singles. Moving the Panthers within one point of the team victory, Munoz Reinoso took the #3 Singles, nearly sweeping Despontin in two sets, 6-1 and 6-0.
Securing the team victory for Adelphi was Farrow in the #4 Singles just after that as he overpowered Langenfeld with 6-3 and 6-4 wins. Looking to at least steal away a couple of points, the Eagles took the #5 Singles with Cronje taking Negrao the distance in three sets in which he won sets one and three by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 while dropping the middle set, 7-6, with a 7-2 tiebreaker loss.
Freshman Matias Hoyos and senior
Jose Nunez were slated to play in the #6 Singles, but the match would be marked as unfinished following Nunez's 6-4 first-set victory due to rain. Nunez was trailing 3-1 before rain forced the match to end with Adelphi winning the match, 4-2.
