WATERBURY, Conn. -- For junior forward Deng Deang joining the Post University Men's Basketball team has led to a myriad of accolades and honors throughout the 2023-24 season. After landing on the Bevo Francis Award's Top 100 List along with his teammate in junior point guard Bol Akot, Deang was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference First Team All-Conference last week, becoming only the fourth player and the fifth honoree in program history to receive that honor.

On Friday afternoon, Deang continued to add his name to a historical list of Men's Basketball players at Post as he was named D2CCA All-East Region Second Team. The junior is the first player in program history to be named to the Second Team, the third player to be named All-Region at the Division II level, and his accolade marks just the fourth time in program history a player from Post has made All-Region. Deang joins the likes of All-American Ron Christy who made the All-Region First Team during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons as well as Devonte McCall who was All-East Region First Team in the 2021-22 season. 

Transferring from Southeastern Iowa Junior College in the NJCAA, Deang made an immediate impact with the Eagles in which he has played and started in 29 games heading into the NCAA Tournament this weekend. He is averaging 28.5 minutes per game which is second-most behind Akot (31.8 MPG) and leads the team with 15.6 points per game on offense. Deang also has a team-high 222 rebounds this season for an average of 7.7 per game and has eight double-doubles this season. From the floor, the Minnesota native is shooting 47.7% from the field, 29.2% from three, and 76% from the free throw line. Defensively, Deang has contributed a team-leading 30 blocks with 33 steals as well. 

Post University is preparing for its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, taking on #15/#10 St. Thomas Aquinas College tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 PM at the Ross Sports Center on the campus of Saint Michael's College.
