EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – With only two weekends remaining in the regular season for Post University Women's Ice Hockey, their playoff seeding in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance Tournament is all but set in stone following a 3-0 loss on Friday afternoon to the conference's top team in Long Island University on the road.
Having just three regular-season games remaining and being four points back of Assumption University who owns the tiebreaker and plays later tonight, a win by the Greyhounds at Sacred Heart University would solidify the Eagles' placement as the seventh seed into the tournament. A loss by the Greyhounds in their last four games and Post winning their final three games would bump the Eagles up to the sixth spot.

HOW IT HAPPENED
While the score may not be indicative of how tight the matchup was, it was the first time since October 29
th, 2022 in which the Eagles lost to the Sharks by two goals or less when they fell 3-1 on the road. In the first period, there were just 11 total faceoffs with Post winning six of them and narrowly being outshot 14-11 overall and 10-7 in shots on goal. On only their second shot of the game, LIU got on the scoreboard with senior forward Mikayla Lantto's goal from senior forward Sarah Rourke and sophomore forward Anya Weilandt teaming up for the score against sophomore goalie
Hali Lawrence who made her second official start of the season.
Lantto and Rourke would be at it again in the second frame, pulling a reversal this time when Rourke scored from Lantto and now junior defenseman Bri Eid assisted on the goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the Sharks. While shots heavily favored LIU in the middle 20 minutes of play, 21-10, only nine of those reached Lawrence in net compared to five for Post against freshman goalie Clara Kammholz.
After earning the secondary assist on the first goal by the Sharks, Weilandt would get one of her own just over halfway through the third period as senior forward Ashley Morrow and junior forward Jeannie Wallner teamed up to get the sophomore's fifth goal of the season which extended LIU's lead to three. On the other end, Kammholz faced just four shots on net in the final period by the Eagles to pick up her fourth win and second shutout of the season, her first also came against Post in a 6-0 win back in December, as the Sharks would take the 3-0 victory on Friday.
BY THE NUMBERS
- In her second full start of the season, Hali Lawrence made 27 saves on 30 shot attempts by LIU – The three goals allowed are the fewest Lawrence has given up in a start in her career when playing a full 60 minutes
- Over the last seven games, Post University is 1-for-28 on the power-play while being unable to score on their last 26 power-play opportunities
- This is the fourth straight game in which Post University has been shutout by LIU dating back to January 13th, 2023 which was a 7-1 loss for the Eagles on the road
- Long Island University remains undefeated in the all-time series against Post now standing at 14-0-0 since the two teams began facing each other in 2019
