Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Michael Vesci, Director of Athletic Communications

Season Comes to Close as Cinderella Story Ends in Game Three for Women's Ice Hockey

MANCHESTER N.H. – For the last three days, seventh-seeded Post University Women's Ice Hockey battled tooth and nail against second-seeded Saint Anselm College in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance Quarterfinals. Heading into the third period of Sunday's deciding game three, sophomore goalie Hannah Saunders and senior goalie Grace Glasrud had stopped 139 of a possible 143 shots they faced in the series against one of the top-scoring offenses in the conference.

But the improbable run for the Eagles would come to a close as the Hawks' offense came to life for five third-period goals, including three in the first five minutes of the frame, to earn themselves a trip to the NEWHA Semifinals next weekend and end Post's season with a 6-1 win.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Saint Anselm College 6

Post University (8-28-1)

Saint Anselm College (20-15-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Momentum from a night ago continued to go in favor of the Eagles as freshman forward Noa Farberman converted on a point-blank shot in front of freshman goalie Courtney Stagman after getting the pass from senior forward Holly Kubichek to give Post a 1-0 lead. NEWHA Player of the Year Natalie Tulchinsky would get the game-tying goal just under five minutes later against Glasrud on a sniper of a shot from the left circle, it was Tulchinsky's first goal of the series.

Making 37 saves in the first two periods, Glasrud helped keep the Eagles in the game on the defensive end while the offense manufactured just seven shot attempts across the same timeframe. The best chance at the go-ahead goal for Post would come off the stick of freshman defenseman Jodie Rose as time winded down in the second when the Eagles had a 2-on-1 opportunity against Stagman but she was able to snag the puck and keep the game tied at one heading into the third.

That save would change the momentum in the contest as Saint Anselm went right to work in the third against Glasrud. Only 43 seconds into the period, sophomore forward Brooklyn Schneiderhan's high shot would get by Glasrud to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead and it would end up being the first of three goals in the period for Schneiderhan en route to a hat trick for the sophomore.Tulchinsky would tack on her second goal of the day less than two minutes after Schneiderhan's first goal of the frame while senior forward Claire Weber added one of her own in a five-goal period for the Hawks.

Post would get 11 shots on goal against Stagman in the third but would be stifled at every turn by the freshman as the Eagles' season came to an end with a 6-1 loss to the Hawks in game three of the NEWHA Quarterfinals.

BY THE NUMBERS
