FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Less than 24 hours after kicking off their season with a big win over Palm Beach Atlantic University, Post University was back on the diamond early Saturday afternoon for a matchup against Nova Southeastern University. Freshman infielder
Dario Sosa continued the hot start to his collegiate career by hitting his first collegiate home run, which would be the lone run for the Eagles in the game, as the Sharks bested them by a score of 8-1.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, Nova Southeastern University 8
Post University (1-1)
Nova Southeastern University (4-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first three runs of the afternoon would all come from the Sharks in the third and fourth innings as senior catcher Tyson Cooper's third-inning two-RBI single and senior infielder MC Sagaro's sacrifice fly in the fourth inning helped extend Nova Southeastern's lead to three against sophomore starting pitcher
Vincent Borghese. Borghese would last just three innings in which he allowed three runs on two hits with five strikeouts and four walks on 65 total pitches before being lifted for graduate right-hander
Nathaniel Byrd.
Despite trailing 3-0, Sosa would give the Eagles life in the fifth inning with his solo home run, giving him three runs batted in to start the season after last night's 2-for-3, two-RBI performance. However, that would be all the offense for Post who was held to just one run on five hits and struck out a total of seven times while manufacturing four walks. Junior starting pitcher Collin Rothermel got his second win of the season for the Sharks after going five innings allowing the lone run on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
In the following four innings of relief, Nova Southeastern allowed just three Eagle hitters to reach base while plating five five more runs offensively. Sophomore infielder Henry Wallen plated one with his RBI double in the sixth before the Sharks scraped across four more in the eighth via two hit by pitches, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single to march on to their fourth win of the season while handing Post their first, 8-1.
