HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles made quick work of the Lightning in part of 22 errors strewn across three sets, resulting in a .060 attack percentage from the visitors. It would take until the third set for Goldey-Beacom to take their first lead of the entire match which they would do on three occasions before Post completed their sweep to head to the CACC Semifinals.
Momentum quickly swung in favor of the home team as the Eagles used a 6-0 run while leading by two to take a 10-2 edge on the Lightning which they held on to the rest of the way. Goldey-Beacom slowly tried to creep their way back into the set with a 7-2 run off kills from four different players to get within two points twice, 18-16 and 19-17, before Post scored six of the last eight points to take a 1-0 lead behind a 25-19 set win.
Once again getting off to a quick start, the Eagles made the most of a second set which featured seven more errors on top of the seven the Lightning had in the first to jump out to a 9-2 lead. This time around, there would be no comeback bid as Post led by as many as 13 points, 23-10, before finishing things off with a 25-14 victory on an attack error from senior outside hitter Poper Nanouski.
Trailing for the first time in any set, 2-0, three straight points from graduate outside hitter
Sara Enright via a kill and two service aces and an attack error from Nanouski flipped the third set back in favor of Post, 4-2. After the Lightning took their third lead of the set and things became deadlocked at 11 all, a 6-0 run behind four Goldey-Beacom errors helped the Eagles salt away the set, 25-15, and the match in sweeping fashion.
Leading all players in kills was Nanouski for the Lightning with 11 kills on 34 attempts with eight errors and a .088 attack percentage followed by graduate outside hitter
Kristina Peric for Post with 10 kills on 24 attempts with only four errors and a .250 attack percentage.
Freshman libero Gaby Fernandez and junior libero
Alyssa Groves went toe-to-toe on defense with Fernandez finishing one better than Groves with 19 digs to her 18 digs. Freshman setter Ada Koksal dished out a match-high 25 assists for Goldey-Beacom while senior setter
Maria Fernanda Branco tallied 22 assists for Post in the victory.
