Peterson Scores First Goal of the Season, Women's Ice Hockey Falls to St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sophomore forward Macy Peterson scored the first goal of the season for Post University Women's Ice Hockey on Saturday evening against the University of St. Thomas, but sophomore forward Rylee Bartz's two-goal performance helped propel the Tommies past the Eagles, 4-1, as Post returns to the East Coast to start conference play with an 0-2 record on the year.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, University of St. Thomas 4

Post University (0-2-0)

University of St. Thomas (2-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a solid start from the Post defense in the first period, St. Thomas would eventually break through just over halfway through the frame when sophomore defenseman Ellah Hause cleaned up a loose puck on the doorstep of junior goalie Hannah Saunders for the score in which junior forward Sadie Lindsay and freshman forward Madison Brown assisted on. Saunders finished the first having made 10 saves on 11 total shots while freshman goalie Dani Strom was a perfect 3-for-3 on save chances.

Continuing to pound away at the Eagles in the second, the Tommies offense manufactured 29 total shots to just five for Post and held a 23-3 shots on goal margin in a period that saw them net two more goals against Saunders. The first came off the stick of Brown from Lindsay in which Lindsay fed the puck through junior forward Rylee Patfield's legs and it found the stick of Brown who placed it into the left side of the goal mouth.

Bartz lit the lamp for the third goal, weaving around the Post defense after taking the pass from freshman forward Chloe Boreen, who scored her first collegiate goal a night before, and squeezed the puck just inside Saunders' right pad, giving St. Thomas a 3-0 lead heading into the third and final period.

Both sides would score in the final frame as another rebounded shot opportunity led to Bartz's second goal of the affair on the power play from Hause and freshman defenseman Cailin Mumm on the power play to add to the Tommies' lead with still about 12 minutes to go in regulation. Five minutes later, Peterson netted her first goal of the season, going five-hole on Strom on the power play to help the Eagles avoid the shutout as they fell to 0-2 to start the year with the 4-1 loss.
