CALDWELL, N.J. – The good times continue to roll on for Post University Women's Volleyball in conference play as for the fourth straight match the Eagles swept through a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent, this time Caldwell University, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon, to move to 8-1 in the conference this year, their best start since 2017 when they were 9-1, and extend their win streak to a season-high four games.
To find the last time the Eagles swept four consecutive matches, you would have to go back to the 2016 season when they also beat four conference opponents in a row from September 29th to October 8th and that same year they would also rattle off seven straight sweeps all part of the same 14-game winning streak Post had that season.
THE BASICS
Post University 3, Caldwell University 0
Post University (13-8, 8-1 CACC)
Caldwell University (1-17, 1-8 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
As has been the case during most of this winning streak, nothing has been close in any of the sets for the Eagles which is a trend that continued on Tuesday. Now in each of the last 10 sets played, Post has held their opponents under 20 points, and even more impressive they have won nine of their last 10 sets by double-digits with the outlier being an eight-point win in set two against Wilmington University over the weekend. The first two sets of the Goldey-Beacom College matchup saw the two teams separated by just two points in each as they went past 25 points, but since then it has been nothing short of domination for Post.
Graduate outside hitter
Kristina Peric led the team with 13 kills on 17 attempts with only one error leading to a .706 attack percentage which now marks the fourth straight match she has attacked above the .400 mark. Not far off her pace were both graduate outside hitter
Sara Enright and senior outside hitter
Caley Harper at 10 kills each with .588 and .300 attack percentages respectively.
Junior libero
Alyssa Groves once again led all players with 24 digs as did senior setter
Maria Fernanda Branco with 25 assists and graduate setter
Izabella Rae had the match's second-most assists with 10 on the day.
As a team, Post attacked at .467 for the match with only eight errors while the Cougars had 18 errors overall and attacked at -.071 as well as had two sets where their percentage was in the negatives. The Eagles trailed just once in the match and it would be by two points to start the second set when senior outside hitter Alexa McEwan started things with a kill and then Harper committed an attack error for Post.
Outside of that one blip, the entire match was owned by long Eagle runs with three instances in the match where they went on 9-0 runs helping them hold the Cougars under 10 points in two of the three sets. On the Caldwell side, their leading attackers would see McEwan along with junior setter Jordan Mack and freshman outside hitter Alexis Nowak all tied with three kills each. Four digs for Mack, junior defensive specialist Torrien Jones, and freshman libero Stephanie Ramos tied them for the team lead in that category as well.
Compared to their three-set win a month ago against Caldwell, the Eagles finished with a higher attack percentage which is now their second highest of the season as well as more services aces at nine, assists with 41, kills with 43, and digs with 45. Post's win this afternoon in straight sets came with scores of 25-8, 25-14, and 25-5.
