Post University (8-6, 3-0 CACC)
Dominican (N.Y.) (5-5, 2-1 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
As they have shown to do all year, when the going gets tough the tough get going for Post which was on full display in set one after an early deficit. Trailing by as many as eight points, 14-6, a 5-0 run followed by some back-and-forth play before another 3-0 run helped the Eagles chip away at their once large deficit and eventually find themselves tied at 22 and 23 apiece later on. While the Lady Chargers would win the last two points to take the set, 25-23, Post would adjust the rest of the way to take the next three sets.
Once again falling behind early after leading 2-0, the Eagles showed resolve in working their way back into the set and once they took an 8-7 lead in it, they never looked back to tie the match up with a 25-18 win. While both teams had been sloppy in set one to the tune of seven errors for Dominican (N.Y.) and five for Post, the big difference for the Eagles was attacking as they hit at a .351 percentage with 16 kills and limited the errors to just two.
That positive momentum carried into set three where Post attacked at an impressive .438 clip with 16 more kills and only two errors while the Lady Chargers had their lowest attack percentage for any set in the match at .138 with eight kills and four errors. The Eagles ran away with that set early and never looked back to take a 10-point win, 25-15, putting them on the cusp of victory.
Some close calls in set four threatened to swing the match with the Eagles appealing a couple of calls made by the line judges which allowed for the Lady Chargers to briefly take control of the set by a pair of points. Trailing 18-16, Enright and Peric led a 3-0 run to give Post the lead back and they would never relinquish it again when a 5-0 run with the score tied at 19 all was enough to stave off a last-second run by Dominican (N.Y.) as Harper capped off her night with a kill in a 25-22 set that gave Post the 3-1 road victory.
In addition to Harper's 17-kill game, senior outside hitter
Tamara Radovanov added 11 kills with a .435 attack percentage while Peric and Enright each had 10 kills. Junior libero
Alyssa Groves continued her climb towards history with 32 more kills while senior setter
Maria Fernanda Branco tallied 29 assists and graduate setter
Izabella Rae had 16 assists of her own in the win.
