HAMILTON, N.Y. – Freshman goalie
Devyn Amundson made her collegiate debut between the pipes for Post University Women's Ice Hockey against #8 Colgate University on Friday afternoon, making 34 saves as the Eagles dropped their third straight game, 8-1, at the hands of the Raiders on the road. Post will host Franklin Pierce University in their home opener next Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM after playing their first six games of the season on the road.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, #8 Colgate University 8
Post University (1-5-0)
#8 Colgate University (5-3-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
While Post was able to contain the Colgate offensive rush when playing 5-on-5, penalties would be the undoing of the first period which would allow the Raiders to get on the scoreboard first. Sophomore forward
Jet Devlin would fly in behind the crease and draw a cross-checking penalty and just seconds later senior forward
Maddy Noonan would take the legs out from under a Colgate player to draw a two-minute tripping call.
Playing with a 5-on-3 advantage, it would not take long for fifth-year forward Kristyna Kaltounkova to beat Amundson through the five-hole almost directly in front of the net with the help of senior forward Neena Brick and junior forward Elyssa Biederman to give Colgate a 1-0 lead. While the Eagles were outshot 21-8 and 11-4 on goal, they would have a prime scoring chance towards the end of the frame when freshman forward
Rowyn Ringor danced in and fired on freshman Farah Walker who gloved down the puck to keep the score the same after one.
But despite the strong first period, the rest of the game would be owned by the Raiders who put up seven more goals between the last two periods behind six different scorers. While Kaltounkova added another in the second which at the time made it a 3-0 game, the rest of the goals would come off the sticks of sophomore forward Kaia Malachino, junior forward Alexis Petford, senior forward Neena Brick, freshman forward Addison Spitz, junior forward Sarah Roger, and freshman forward Alexia Aubin.
Freshman goalie Farah Walker picked up the win for the Raiders, stopping 10 shots in 46 minutes while allowing the lone goal of the day for the Eagles in the third when senior forward
Julia Wysocki capitalized off a turnover to beat her to the left in the 8-1 loss.
