Sousa, Men's Soccer Soar to Homecoming Weekend Win Over Jefferson University

WATERBURY, Conn. – Graduate goalkeeper Ricardo Moreno pitched his third consecutive shutout for Post University Men's Soccer and the Eagles used two second-half goals to soar past Jefferson University on Homecoming Weekend at LaMoy Field, remaining undefeated in conference play this season and unbeaten in their last 23 conference matches with a 2-0 win over the Rams.

THE BASICS

Post University 2, Jefferson University 0

Post University (6-3-3, 4-0-2 CACC)

Jefferson University (7-3-2, 3-2-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Defense ruled over the first 45 minutes of play on Saturday with a combined four shots being taken in that timeframe which favored Post, 3-1. The Eagles forced graduate goalkeeper John Nelson to make two saves in net for the Rams while Moreno stopped the lone shot of the half he faced, bringing both teams into the halftime break with a scoreless tie.

But both offenses quickly came to life in the second half as 21 combined shots were taken with a slight 11-10 edge for Post and both sides making three saves in net. Senior forward Francisco Sousa would give Post the lead in the 53rd minute as graduate midfielder Luca Dettoli threaded a pass to graduate midfielder Luis Rodrigues in the middle of the field. Rodrigues would then serve it up to Sousa who beat Nelson to his left side for the go-ahead goal that would end up standing the rest of the way.

While Moreno would make three routine saves in that half, Post would make the most of a defensive zone turnover by the Rams when freshman midfielder Len Fliss turned on the jets for a breakaway goal against Nelson, helping the Eagles cruise to their third straight shutout win, 2-0, and third consecutive win overall.
