ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Snapping a five-game losing streak dating back to October 1st, Post University Women's Tennis got back in the win column as they approach the end of their fall season with a tight 4-3 victory over Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon. After dropping the Doubles point for the 12th time this season, the Eagles were able to take four of the six Singles matches to get by the Lady Chargers for their second conference win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Megan Lombardt and freshman
Julie Merlin would take their #1 Doubles matchup against sophomore Kyla Fouts and freshman Olivia Lopez. 6-2, but the other two Singles would go the way of the Lady Chargers. Junior
Nina Langenfeld along with freshman
Annelein Van Urk fell to senior Lia Sarjveladze and senior Angelina Amelkina, 6-2, in the #2 Doubles as would be the case for junior
Gioia Turco and freshman
Melanie Leussink in the #3 Doubles against seniors Ava O'Brien and Preeti Koli.
Taking the lead in the match would be the Eagles as Merlin defeated Fouts first, 6-0 and 6-2, in the #2 Singles followed by a pair of 6-1 sets in the #3 Singles for Langenfeld over Koli. Before the Lady Chargers could capture their only two other matches of the day, Post got the other two wins they needed to take the team win with the #5 and #6 Singles going to Melanie and
Romy Leussink respectively.
Melanie Leussink would take down O'Brien, 6-0 and 6-1, while
Romy Leussink defeated Lopez, 6-1 and 6-2 to get the Eagles to their required four team points. After that, a pair of three-set matches went the way of Dominican (N.Y.) as Sarjveladze beat out Van Urk following her 6-3 loss in set one, 6-1 and 6-4, in the following two sets in the #4 Singles.
Rounding out the day was Amelkina in the #1 Singles over Lombardt again with wins in sets one and three by 6-1 and 6-4 scores while Lombardt took the middle set, 6-4. However, Post would still win the match 4-3, improving to 3-11 on the year and 2-7 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- This is the second time this season in which Julie Merlin has had a perfect 2-0 day between Doubles and Singles with the last one coming against Molloy University back in September
- With her #6 Singles win, Romy Leussink snaps her three-game losing streak in Singles while also moving to 3-3 when playing in the #6 Singles slot
- With the victory today, it makes the first time this season in which Post University has won a match despite losing the Doubles point – The Eagles were 0-11 when losing the Doubles point this year and 2-0 when they won it
- Post University is now 7-1 all-time against Dominican (N.Y.) having swept the season series two of the last three years after splitting last season
WHO'S NEXT
Post University has its penultimate match of the fall and final home match of the season tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM against St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club. Last year, the two teams met in Sparkill, New York where the Spartans swept the Eagles, 7-0, for their second straight head-to-head win after losing the previous four to Post.
