Women's Tennis Swept by Wilmington at Home

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Another quick turnaround for Post University Women's Tennis saw them clash with three-time CACC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Wilmington University at home on Tuesday afternoon at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club in Middlebury, Connecticut with both teams in similar spots personnel-wise but different spots record-wise.

Both teams entered the match with seven players five of which were freshmen or transfers while record-wise the Wildcats entered the day undefeated while Post looked to build off its momentum from yesterday's win over Dominican (N.Y.). However, it would be Wilmington coming out on top with the 7-0 sweep of the Eagles, carrying their record to a perfect 5-0 on the season while the Eagles fell to 2-7.

Wilmington University (5-0, 5-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshmen Romy Leussink and Melanie Leussink would be swept 6-0 in the #2 Doubles by junior Gloria Barcaro and freshman Ines Oliviera, but all would not be lost for Post in the Doubles. The #1 Doubles would go their way as senior Megan Lombardt and freshman Julie Merlin were 6-3 winners over freshman Ming-Fu Chen and senior Kushi Khandoji, 6-3, leaving it up to the #3 Doubles to decide who would get the Doubles point.

That point would end up going the way of Wilmington freshmen Molly Carlberg and Liza Sylka, who took down senior Nina Langenfeld and freshman Annelein Van Urk, 6-2, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead heading into Singles play.

In Singles, all the results would favor the visitors once more as Barcaro swept through Melanie Leussink with a pair of 6-0 sets in the #5 Singles followed by Khandoji doing the same in the #3 Singles to Van Urk. Merlin and Sylka would have a slightly more competitive matchup in the #2 Singles, but Sylka would get the better of Merlin in two sets, 6-3 and 6-1, to secure the team win for Wilmington.

Capping off the sweep, Langenfeld was downed by Chen in the #4 Singles with two 6-4 sets followed by a pair of 7-5 set wins for freshman Siana MacDonald in the #1 Singles over Lombardt. Closing out the match was Oliviera against Romy Leussink in the #6 Singles with 6-2 and 6-1 wins as the Wildcats left Connecticut with the 7-0 sweep.
