SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In hopes of continuing their winning ways to start the new year, Post University Men's Ice Hockey traveled on the road to face Western New England University who would score six unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 in the first, handing the Eagles their 11
th loss of the season, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore defenseman
Ryan Cardow tallied his third goal of the season and second in as many games as he beat sophomore goalie Logan Palmer after getting the puck bounced to him from freshman forward
Parker Norling to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with under three minutes remaining in the first period. Junior goalie
Drew Blodgett made eight saves on all eight shot attempts to help Post take that 1-0 edge heading into the second period.
From there, it would be all Golden Bears for the final two periods as they would score six unanswered goals, including five in the second period against Blodgett over a seven-minute stretch. Sophomore goalie
Benjamin Cunneen relieved Blodgett, who finished with 17 saves, in the third period and would allow one goal on 10 total shots in the 6-1 defeat.
The Western New England offense was anchored by junior forward Sam Mitchell who tallied two goals and an assist for a team-leading three points on the afternoon. Senior defenseman Shane Miller and senior forward Matt Dougherty each tallied two points as they both notched two assists each in the affair. In all, 11 different Golden Bears' players recorded a point, eight had an assist, and five scored goals in the victory which was their fifth straight in the head-to-head series with Post.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Ryan Cardow has now scored goals in back-to-back games to extend his point streak to two games for the second time this season (St. Anselm/Assumption: 11/4/23 – 11/17/23)
- The Post penalty kill went 1-for-2 on the day, but the Eagles have now allowed a power-play goal in eight straight games
- Post University has now scored one goal or fewer offensively in seven games this season and is 0-7-0 in such games
- Post University falls to 0-5-0 against Western New England in the all-time series, losing by the identical 6-1 score as last season's matchup, and have been outscored 25-9 in the five matchups
WHO'S NEXT
Post University returns to conference play on Thursday night in their first of two road matchups with Saint Michael's College with the first being scheduled to kick off at 6:10 PM. The Eagles are 6-10-0 all-time against the Purple Knights, but have dropped five of their last six matchups against them dating back to January 22, 2022. On the road last season, Post was outscored by a 10-4 margin in their pair of road losses to Saint Michael's.
