Craig's Lone Tally Not Enough In Men's Ice Hockey's 6-1 Loss Against Penmen

MANCHESTER, N.H. – After a narrow 1-0 loss against Southern New Hampshire University last night, Post University's Men's Ice Hockey returned to the Penmen's home rink to seek revenge. The Eagles were able to sneak a goal in this game, but ultimately fell to their hosts, 6-1.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Southern New Hampshire University 6

Post University (2-15-1, 1-11-1 NE10)

Southern New Hampshire University (7-10-2, 5-6-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Penmen immediately made their presence known, winning the initial faceoff, but the Eagles were able to steal the puck back before getting the first shot off, just 35 ticks into the game. 2:25 later, Post earned a power play which resulted in a trio of shots from the Eagles, but they were unable to penetrate SNHU's defense, keeping the score at a standstill. When the Penmen regained full strength, they brought a strong offensive drive, firing five shots before the Eagles responded with three of their own.

The teams ping-ponged possession until 12:30 when SNHU got on the board thanks to a goal by Tyler Murray from a feed by Ryan Pomposelli and Brendan Lynch. A minute and a half later, the Penmen continued their groove, adding another goal to their tally at 14 minutes even to bring the score to 2-0. Eagle Jacob Howell was able to get one shot on net before the end of the first, however, they headed into the second down by two.

Coming back from the intermission, both teams traded a pair of shots before the Eagles forced another penalty to gain a man-up situation where Post ripped five shots that were all shut down by the Penmen and their goalie. SNHU went on a nine-shot rally, but the Eagles defense held strong, keeping them scoreless until the 11th minute when Lynch found the back of the net to record a goal of his own and give the Penmen a comfortable 3-0 lead. However, with just under four minutes to go in the second (16:01) Post's Cameron Craig took advantage of a power play as the rookie laced one past SNHU's keeper to give the Eagles their first goal of the game, handed off by Jack Engdahl and Connor Barter. Neither squad was able to score in the remaining minutes, heading into the final frame, 3-1.

After outshooting the Eagles nine to two in the first three minutes of action in the third period, the Penman put another one up on the board at the 3:01 mark after capitalizing on a power play to make it 4-1. With 12:35 remaining in regulation, the Eagles found themselves down a man once again, however, they were able to hold the Penmen scoreless during the two minutes. It wasn't until 13:36 when SNHU tacked on a fifth goal, once again on a power play. With just 36 seconds to go, the Penmen added a sixth to their tally before taking the eventual 6-1 win.

WHO'S NEXT
Post University will play on Wednesday evening against Assumption University at the Martire Family Arena on the campus of Sacred Heart University at 7:00 PM.
