Women's Tennis Drops to Chestnut Hill In Saturday Afternoon Battle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Post University's Women's Tennis continued conference play this afternoon as they traveled to Pennsylvania for a matchup against the Chestnut Hill College Griffins. After the Griffins grabbed a 3-0 edge in doubles, the home team was able to secure the 5-2 win with a pair of wins in singles action despite the Eagles' best attempt.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Griffins started off hot, finishing first on doubles court No. 3 with a 6-0 blanking followed by two more wins on court No. 2 and No. 1, respectively, taking both matches narrowly, 6-4. 

Heading over to singles action, Chestnut was able to secure the initial win on court No. 4 (6-4, 6-3) before Annika Wise earned the fifth point for the Griffins with a close 7-5 win in the No. 5 spot before winning her match thanks to a 6-1 second set. 

Next to finish was the undefeated singles winner Annunciata De-Souza in the No. 2 singles spot, who earned the first victory of the afternoon for the Eagles (6-1, 6-1), overpowering her opponent, Nele Haag. De-Souza catalyzed a short win streak for the Eagles, as Oceane Mallevre beat out her counterpart, 6-4 and 6-3. 

In the No. 1 spot was Micaela Rosignuolo who fought tooth and nail for a third win for the Eagles, however, ultimately came up short in the third set (6-3, 1-6, 3-6) before the Griffins took the 5-2 conference win. 

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Annunciata De-Souza continued to be a force to be reckoned with as she moves to 7-0 in singles play this year, while winning her past 11 straight singles matches since last season -- Eight of which have come in straight sets
  • Overall, Post University is 31-22  in singles matches so far this season and 14-12 overall in doubles matches.
  • As as team, the Eagles have dropped nine consecutive doubles matches.
WHO'S NEXT
Post University looks to break their losing streak as they return to the courts tomorrow, Sunday, October 1 at 2:00PM when they travel to Manchester, New Hampshire to face Southern New Hampshire University. Previously, the Eagles are 2-4 against SNHU.
