HOW IT HAPPENED
Head Coach
Rob Howard would shake up the starting lineup for his team in the doubles, putting graduate student
Annunciata De-Souza and junior
Megan Lombardt together in the #1 Doubles for the first time this season, but the duo would fall 6-0 against sophomore Alina Kupfer and graduate student Verena Weindl. But the two new duos in the #2 and #3 Doubles consisting of junior
Micaela Rosignuolo and sophomore
Natalia Gonzalez Ramos as well as graduate student
Julia D'Occhio and senior
Oceane Mallevre respectively would take wins to give the Eagles that doubles point.
Defeating freshman Dajana Abadzic and senior Eleonora Guglielmetti, Rosignuolo and Gonzalez Ramos in a tiebreaker, 7-6 overall and 7-4 in the tiebreaker point while D'Occhio and Mallevre took their match 6-4 overall against freshman Nadia Alden and junior Katelyn Nichols.Â
But the singles would be the difference maker as the Penmen got off to a strong start and never looked back to take the win. Dropping her first singles match of the season, De-Souza fell in straight sets to Kupfer, 6-3 and 6-4, in the #1 Singles before Rosignuolo lost in identical 6-3 sets to Weindl in the #2 Singles which gave Southern New Hampshire their first lead of the day in the overall team score. Freshman Nadya Lyekontseva continued the Penmen momentum with 6-3 and 7-5 set wins over Lombardt in the #4 Singles.Â
Alden's win over D'Occhio in the #6 Singles which went three sets, 6-4, 3-6, and 6-2, would give the Penmen the team victory despite junior
Nina Langenfeld winning shortly after in three sets over Guglielmetti, 2-6, 6-1, and 6-2 in the #5 Singles. Closing out the day was Mallevre in the #4 Singles against Abadzic, a match that would feature two sets of tiebreaker round in which both sides would each take a set with the difference being a 6-3 set two win for Abadzic.Â
