Going for the Gold(ey)! Women's Tennis Sweeps Season Series Against Lightning

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. -- When Post University Women's Tennis needed a win the most, they would get one on Tuesday afternoon in Middlebury, Connecticut at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis facility against Goldey-Beacom College. After defeating the Lightning earlier this season, 5-2, on the road, the Eagles would do it again but this time at home, snapping a four-game losing streak to get back over .500 overall and pull to .500 in conference play this fall.

THE BASICS
Post University 5, Goldey-Beacom College 2

Post University (6-5, 3-3 CACC)

Goldey-Beacom College (2-5, 1-5 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Post University would sweep through the doubles for the first time since September 17th against D'Youville as graduate student Annunciata De-Souza and sophomore Natalia Gonzalez Ramos took care of business in the #2 Doubles, 6-1, against sophomore Nahomi Quinonez and junior Macy Hendin-Walker. Sophomore Micaela Rosignuolo and junior Megan Lombardt also got a victory in the #1 Doubles, 7-5, over junior Elizabeth Mova and sophomore Zehra Canbaz to give the Eagles the point.

The new duo of graduate student Julia D'Occhio and senior Oceane Mallevre would steamroll their way to a win in the #3 Doubles with a dominant 6-3 win over sophomore Asli Kunuk and junior Lisa-Marie Roussingol.

Junior Nina Langenfeld continued to find her footing in the #3 Singles, winning her second straight match after losing four of her previous five, winning 6-2 and 6-1 against Hendin-Walker. Mallevre would follow suit a little while later, overcoming some second set fatigue against Roussingol in the #5 Singles to win 6-0 and 6-4 to move the Eagles within one match of snapping their skid.

That much needed win would come in a #2 Singles thriller as De-Souza was forced to a tiebreaker against Canbaz in which she would win it 7-4 before dominating the second set, 6-0, giving Post University the fourth victory they needed to capture the team win.

The two matches that would go in favor of the Lightning would be the #1 Singles with Mova taking down Rosinguolo, 6-2 and 6-0, while Quinonez edged out Lombardt, 7-5 and 6-4, in the #4 Singles. Gonzalez Ramos would close the day for the Eagles with a win in the #6 Singles, defeating sophomore Elina Mukhamadeeva, 6-0 and 6-2, to complete the 5-2 team win.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • After dropping her first singles match of the year at Southern New Hampshire, Annunciata De-Souza got back into the win column with her #2 Singles victory, pushing her to a perfect 6-0 in conference play this year and has won seven straight singles conference matches dating back to last year
  • This was the first doubles sweep for the Eagles since their victory over D'Youville University back on September 17th
