Women's Tennis Falls to Jefferson in CACC Matchup at Home

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. -- In a rematch of the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Semifinals, Post University Women's Tennis looked to get back at Jefferson University who beat them 4-0 last season. While competitive all afternoon and playing the maximum three sets in three singles, the Eagles were unable to overcome the Rams, falling 6-1 at Edgewood Bath and Tennis on Wednesday afternoon, falling to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play as they lost their second consecutive match.

THE BASICS
Post University 1, Jefferson University 6

Post University (5-3, 2-2 CACC)

Jefferson University (5-3, 2-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second straight match, Post would be unable to secure the doubles point as sophomore Micaela Rosignuolo and junior Megan Lombardt were swept in the #1 Doubles, 6-0, by graduate student Noelle Frenzel and junior Nicole Hrbkova. An early lead for graduate student Annunciata De-Souza and sophomore Natalia Gonzalez Ramos would be overcome by sophomores Charly Egger and senior Manni Zhang to propel the Rams to a 6-4 victory in the #2 Doubles and the doubles point.

Senior Stanislava Norets and sophomore Rose Huang would also come back against junior Nina Langenfeld and graduate student Julia D'Occhio, earning Jefferson a sweep of the doubles with a 7-5 win in the #3 Doubles.

Identical 6-1 sets for Egger against Langenfeld in the #3 Singles and a pair of 6-2 sets for Huang over Gonzalez Ramos in the #5 Singles gave the Rams two of the three necessary singles points to earn the win, but the rest would not come easy for Jefferson as the Eagles put up a fight.

Fighting back from a 6-0 first set sweep, Rosignuolo would force a third set against Frenzel in the #2 Singles with a 6-1 set two victory, but would be unable to complete the comeback as she dropped set number three, 6-2, which secured the team win for the Rams who accumulated four team points. A similar outcome would transpire for senior Oceane Mallevre in the #4 Singles after overcoming a 6-2 opening set loss to Zhang with a 6-4 set two win. However, Zhang would shut the door on the match with a 6-3 final set score.

Playing in the #6 Singles, junior Zenia Barretto would use 6-2 and 6-1 set wins over D'Occhio to put the Rams on the brink of a sweep, but maintaining her perfect singles record this fall, De-Souza would move to 6-0 after winning set one, 6-1, before falling in set two, 7-6, after losing the tiebreaker 8-6. However, the graduate student would remain poised and earn her sixth win of the season with a 6-3 third set to end the afternoon on a high note for the Eagles.
