MIDDLEBURY, Conn. -- After rain postponed their opening match of the season against AIC on Monday, Post University Women's Tennis got their 2023 campaign underway on Tuesday at Edgewood Bath and Tennis in Middlebury against undefeated Assumption, in a tense match that saw the Eagles fall in a close battle, 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a trio of high stakes doubles matches where the team who takes two of the three matches earns a single point towards the team score, sophomore
Natalia Gonzalez Ramos and graduate student
Annunciata De-Souza teamed up in the #2 Doubles to take a 6-3 victory over freshman Caroline Mader and graduate student Caitlin Sze for the first win of the day for the Eagles.
While junior
Nina Langenfeld and graduate student
Julia D'Occhio fell 7-5 in the #3 Doubles after a come back from freshmen Carolina de Souza and Carola Schaudinn, sophomore
Micaela Rosignuolo and junior
Megan Lombardt took back momentum for Post with a tiebreaker win, 7-6, over freshmen Jill Schoenich and Jette Weigelt to give the Eagles the team point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
However, Assumption would take back control in the six singles matches. After De-Souza took down freshman Marie Knispel in a near double sweep, 6-0 and 6-1, the Greyhounds would take four of the remaining five doubles to take the 4-3 win.
Senior
Oceane Mallevre fell in two straight sets, 6-3, to freshman Beren Vapur in the #3 Singles while Langenfeld defeated Schoeneich, 6-4 and 6-3, to give the Eagles the lead, 3-1.
Assumption would rally with a #2 Singles win from Mader over Rosignuolo, 6-4 and 6-3, followed by Carolina de Souza against Gonzalez Ramos in the #5 Singles, 6-2, and 7-6 (7-0 tiebreaker win), and seal victory with freshman Danielle de Souza's 6-3 and 6-0 wins in the #6 Singles over Lombardt.

Post University will get right back to it in search of their first win of the season on Thursday afternoon at home against Bentley University at 3:00 PM. The two sides faced off last year in Waltham, Massachusetts in which the Eagles swept the Falcons, 7-0.
