Rutherford, N.J. – The Post University women's lacrosse team closed out its 2023 season with a 15-11 win over Felician in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon.
Post finishes its season at 5-11 overall and 4-6 in the CACC. Felician is now 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the CACC.
The Eagles took control early, scoring the first three goals of the game as
Morgan Cassiliano scored the first of her six goals at the 13:42 mark.
Athlyn Wood scored at the 9:34 mark, while
Cara DiStefano scored just 27 seconds later, staking the Eagles to a 3-0 lead. Felician got on the board at the 5:53 mark on Tala Marzooq's first goal. Post would take a 4-2 lead into the second period as
Hailey McHenry scored the final goal in the quarter for Post.
It was déjà vu in the second period for the Eagles, scoring the first three again, with
Morgan Cassiliano scoring her second of the game, followed by two straight from DiStefano. Felician followed with the next two to make it a 7-4 game, but DiStefano scored her second with 2:24 remaining in the period and the Eagles took an 8-4 lead into the half.
For the third straight period, Cassiliano led off a quarter with a goal to put the Eagles up, 9-4, but this time it was Felician going on a scoring streak. The Golden Falcons scored six straight from the 12:43 mark to the 3:09 mark as Marzooq scored three goals during the run and Julia Ravazza, two as they took a brief 10-9 lead. However Cassiliano scored her fourth of the game with just over a minute remaining as the two teams went into the fourth tied, 10-10.
The Eagles took over in the final period, scoring on three consecutive free position shots, starting with Wood, who scored her second of the game, followed by one each from DiStefano and Cassiliano. Cassiliano scored her final goal in her Post career – and her sixth of the game - with four minutes remaining.
Felician added one more goal and
Samantha Targonski scored the final goal of the game for the Eagles.
Cassiliano finished with 56 goals on the season, ranking her seventh in the CACC. She finishes her career with 246 goals and 276 points, both of which are school records. She also holds the school record for goals in a game, which she did twice.
DiStefano finished with a season-high five goals to go with five draw controls. She finished with 31 goals for the season. Wood finished with two goals, and
Gabrielle Fiora finished with two assists. Targonski added four draw controls.
