Softball Concludes Season With Sweep Of Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. -  The Post University softball team concluded its 2023 season with a sweep of Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, taking game one, 9-1 and game two, 7-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

Post finishes its season 16-34 overall and 8-16 in the CACC.

In game one, Allyson Wallauer gave the Eagles the lead early with her eighth home run of the season – a two-run shot to put the Eagles up, 2-0.
The Griffins split their deficit in half in the bottom of the inning, but the Eagles offense opened up in the top of the fourth as Juliana Rigano, Julia Maida and Samantha Riccardulli each had RBI singles as part of a five-hit inning for the team.

Post would added four more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, the first two coming from a two-run single by Leyri Rivera that scored Courtney Brobst and Riccardulli to make it a 7-1 game. With the bases loaded and two outs, Rigano singled to drive in Rivera and Julianna Cicala drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 9-1 game.

It was more than enough for Maddison Caldwell, who pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out two for her sixth win of the season.
Caitlin DeAngelis was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Brobst was 2-for-4 with a run. Rivera was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Cicala was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Rigano was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.

In game two, it was again Wallauer who kick started the offense in the top of the second with a solo home run to put Post up, 1-0.

The Eagles went to score two runs in each of the next three innings. In the top of the third, Carli Perruso led off the inning with a single and a single from Brobst, compounded with a throwing error allowed Perruso to score. Brobst later scored on a wild pitch. In the fourth, Perruso hit a one out triple that scored Brianna Hynds, who singled to make it a 4-0 game. Rivera added an RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.

In the top of the fifth, the Eagles scored two runs without a hit as four walks, the last one to Makayla Roberts with the bases loaded scored a run and Brobst had a sacrifice fly for the final tally for the Eagles, which ended up being an important one.

The Griffins scored one in the bottom of the inning and in the bottom of the seventh, they loaded the bases on a single and two walks and scored on a bases loaded walk, followed by a wild pitch to make it a 7-3 game.

With runners on second and third, Macey Matlock attempted to steal home but was caught for the first out of the inning. It became a 7-4 game after an RBI single by Mianna Lopez Del Haro two-run single by Skyler Cunningham. After a walk to Peyton Baldwin, the game was called because of torrential rain and they did not
resume, giving the Eagles the win.

Jenny Riquelme pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four for her eighth win of the season.  

Wallauer was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Hynds was 2-for-4 with a run. Perruso was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs.

Wallauer finished the season second in the CACC with 69 hits and 20 doubles. She also was fourth in home runs with eight and first in total bases with 123 and first in slugging percentage at .737. Tomasiello was fifth in RBI with 45.
