Softball Routs Holy Family In Game Two In CACC Split

Waterbury, CT – The Post University softball team scored ten runs over the first two innings in game two in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) split with Holy Family on Sunday, winning the second game 11-3 after falling in the first game, 6-4.
Post is now 7-19 overall and 3-3 in the CACC. The Tigers are 7-21 and 5-5, respectively.

In the first inning of game two, the Eagles scored six runs, beginning with an RBI single by Lily Tomasiello which plated Leyri Rivera who led off the inning with a single. It loaded the bases as Juliana Rigano and Caitlin DeAngelis drew back-to-back walks, making it a 3-0 game. Julianna Cicala and Julia Maida then followed with RBI groundouts and an error off the bat of Samantha Riccardulli that scored DeAngelis made it a 6-0 game.

Jenny Riquelme retired the Tigers in order in the second and Post again continued to score in the bottom of the inning as Courtney Brobst led off the inning with a single and was driven in by Allyson Wallauer on an RBI triple. DeAngelis had an Rbi single and Julia Maida hit a two-run single to give post the 10-0 lead.

The Rams scored two in the third on a two-run double by Madison Grubb and one in the fourth on a solo home run by Alexis Letizia.
Post would win the game in the fifth via the mercy rule as Wallauer tripled with two outs in the inning and Tomasiello drove her home.

Tomasiello was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Wallauer was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. DeAngelis was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Maida was 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Riquelme earned the win, pitching four innings, allowing just three earned runs on six hits while striking out two. Alyssa Hughes struck out two in an inning of relief.

In game one, Post got out to a fast start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. The Eagles hit four consecutive singles to open the inning by Rivera, Brobst, Wallauer and Tomasiello. The latter two singles drove in runs, making it a 2-0 game. With the bases loaded, Rigano drew a walk, putting the Eagles up, 3-0.

Holy Family, however, took the lead back in the top of the second, scoring four of their own, including back-to-back RBI doubles by Grubb and Samantha Ciasullo to take a 4-3 lead. The Tigers added two more in the top of the fifth on a two-run single by Angelina Bresnen.
In the bottom of the seventh, Wallauer tripled with one out in the inning and was driven in by a single from Tomasiello, but the Eagles were unable to get another run across.
