Caron Drives In Four, But Baseball Winning Streak Snapped By Bloomfield

Newark, N.J. - The Post University baseball team's nine-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Bloomfield College Bears in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game (CACC) on Saturday afternoon.

The winning streak was the second longest in program history. Post still sits atop the CACC North Division, with a 22-13 overall record and 12-2 in the CACC. Bloomfield is now 12-22 overall and 7-5 in the CACC.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second until the Eagles tied it in the top of the  third on a sacrifice fly from DJ Caron.

However, the Bears scored five in the bottom of the third as Tyree Bradley hit a three-run homer, followed by a two-run homer from Justin Rivera to stake the Bears to a 6-1 lead.

Caron once again got the Eagles closer in the top of the fifth, hitting a two-run double that scored Michael Pavelchak, who singled, and Evan Cornwell, who walked. The Eagles had runners on second and third in the inning with one out but were unable to get another run across.

Bloomfield scored two more times in the sixth, making it an 8-3 game. Caron added his second homer of the season, a solo shot at in the seventh, making it an 8-5 game. A sacrifice fly from Matthew Soloman made it an 8-5 game in the top of the eighth, but the Bears pulled away, scoring four in the bottom og the eighth.

Caron finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run. Pavelchak was 2-for-5 with a run. Cornwell was 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk.

Bradley finished 2-for-5 with a run and four RBI. Rivera was 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

Up next, it will be a rematch of the 2022 CACC Championship and the two leaders in their respective divisions as the Eagles host Wilmington at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader at Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
