Softball Rallies Early In Game One, But Drop Two To Eckerd

St. Petersburg, FL. - The Post University softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader, 9-4 and 7-1 to Eckerd on Saturday afternoon.

Post is now 0-6 on the season and Eckerd moves to 12-9.

After giving up three runs in the bottom of the first of game one, the Eagles got three runs back of their own in the top of the second as Bailey Dickenson singled and Julianna Cicala walked to start the early rally. An error by the catcher then allowed pinch runner Emily Tarko to score to make it a 3-1 game. With one, Courtney Brobst walked and Leyri Rivera followed with a double to left to scored Brobst and Cicala, tying the game at 3-3. The Eagles again put runners on first and second, but two strike outs ended the inning, leaving the runners stranded.

The Tritons, however score three in the bottom of the second as Lauren Margolis hit a bases loaded, bases clearing double to make it a 6-3 game.

Post got one back in the top of the third with an RBI fielder's choice by Cicala, but in the bottom fo the fourth, Eckerd put the game out of reach as Kinsley Castro hit a three-run triple to make it a 9-4 game. The Eagles managed just two baserunners the rest of the way.

Rivera was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Caitlin DeAngelis was 2-for-4 with a run.

Margolis had four RBI for Eckerd. Brielle Benefield earned the win, striking out 11 in a complete game.

In game two, the Tritons scored three in both the 6th and 7th innings after a pitchers' duel for the first four innings.

Eckerd scored one in the bottom of the second, and the Eagles responded in the top of the third with an RBI single from Lily Tomasiello to make it a 1-1 game.

Jenny Riquelme allowed just four runners on base through the first four innings before Tritons scored three in the fifth, highlighted by RBI doubles from both Brenna Lokeinsy and Ella Coiner. Lokiensky then hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth as Eckerd pulled away.

Riquelme pitched a complete game, striking out three.

Olivia Johnson threw a complete game for Eckerd, striking out nine, allowing just four hits, a walk and an earned run. Lokeinsky had three RBI.

Post will take on Le Moyne at 9 a.m. and Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) at 11:30 as part of the Spring Games in Leesburg, FL on Sunday.
