Haines Scores Career-High 34 Points As Eagles Take Down Georgian Court In CACC Quarterfinals

Waterbury, CT - Led by a career-high 34 points by Sha'Raya Haines, the Post University women's basketball team never trailed in a 68-59 win over Georgian Court University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.

It's the third straight season the Eagles have played in that they have reached the CACC Semifinals. They will take on Holy Family at 2 p.m. at Jefferson University on Saturday, March 4.

The Eagles jumped out the gate quickly, scoring the first ten points as Jailah White and Tyree Allen hit back-to-back threes to kick things off. Post didn't allow a point until 5:08 left in the first quarter. The Lions crept to within three at 10-7 after a three from Savawn Hughes at the 4:00 mark, but the Eagles scored seven of the next nine points, four of those points on layups from Haines to put Post back up, 18-9. Post went into the second quarter leading, 20-14.

Post extended its lead to 14 points at 35-21 less than four minutes into the second quarter as Haines scored ten of the first 15 points of the quarter, hitting two threes. Both baskets remained silent for almost the next four minutes until a three from Tyara McQueen at the 2:13 mark put the Eagles up 38-21. A layup from Hughes made it a 38-23 game at the half.

During the third quarter, Haines scored ten straight points, putting the Eagles up 51-35 with 2:51 remaining as the two teams played level throughout the quarter. Jaraiah Patterson kept the Lions afloat, scoring seven points in the quarter as Post took a 56-42 lead into the fourth.

Post got its biggest lead of the game after an offensive rebound and putback from White to go up 60-42 just 2:30 into the fourth, but the Lions scored the next nine points, including a three from Tian Addison and a jumper from Patterson. The Eagles broke the run on a layup from Haines. The Eagles were able to make enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Lions in the final three minutes.

Allen and McQueen finished with seven points for the Eagles. Taina Pagan led the team with 11 rebounds to go with five points and Haines also notched her second double-double of the season with ten rebounds. White finished with five points. Kiara Eubanks had six points, nine rebounds and three assists. Roxkel Washington came off the bench, making both her field goal attempts for four points.

Post led the rebounding edge, 46-33, including 13 offensive rebounds that led to eight second chance points.

The Eagles are now 20-9 on the season. It's their second 20 win season in the last three. The Lions finish their season, 10-14.

Patterson led the Lions with 18 points. Hughes scored 17.
