Women's Basketball Captures Third CACC North Title In Win Over Felician

Waterbury, CT - The Post University women's basketball team won its third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Regular Season Championship after defeating Felician, 74-62 in their regular season finale at the Drubner Center.

It's the third straight title in seasons the Eagles have played in. They did not participate in the 2020-21 COVID-19 abbreviated season.

The Eagles wrap up its regular season at 19-9 overall and 14-4 in the CACC. They have won their last five games and nine of their last ten games. Felician, the third seed in the North, finishes 11-14 overall and 8-10 in the CACC.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Sha'Raya Haines, leading five Eagles in double figures with 19 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Tyree Allen finished with 12 points. Taina Pagan had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jailah White had 11 points and three steals and Kiara Eubanks scored ten points with six rebounds.

The Eagles jumped out to a commanding 25-12 lead after the first quarter, spearheaded by an 18-4 run to start the game as six different Eagles scored during the run. Haines, Tijanae Simmons and Allen each hit a three during the opening 5:43 of the game. Post shot 52.6 percent from the field on 10-for-19 shooting in the first quarter and forced six Felician turnovers, leading to seven points.

Felician bounced back in the second quarter, trimming the Eagles lead, going on an 8-0 rnu to start the quarter before a three from Allen weathered the storm and made it a 28-21 game with 6:03 remaining. Felician got within two points at 29-27 after a layup and free throw by Brianna Lee at the 3:08 mark, but the Eagles were able to hang on to take a 37-33 into the half.

Post saw its lead disappear in the third quarter on four brief occasions, eventually trailing by three after a jumper by Felician's Uzor Uchidiuno to make it 46-43, but a three from Simmons on the ensuing possession for the Eagles tied the game back up. The three sparked a 10-0 run, capped by a three from Allen, making it a 53-46 game with 2:52 left in the quarter. Post took a 55-52 lead into the fourth.

Allen kicked off the fourth with a three to put Post up 58-52 as the Eagles were able to keep the Golden Falcons at arms length for most of the quarter. Felician crept back within two at 59-57, but the Eagles hit five of their six free throws to put the lead back up to 64-57 with 4:52 remaining. The Eagles shot just 2-for-11 from the field, but made 14 of 19 free throws in the final quarter to put the game away. The Eagles allowed just 4-for-15 shooting from the Golden Falcons.

The Eagles edged out Felician, 37-36 in the rebound battle. Post also forced 16 turnovers, leading to 12 points.

Simmons finished with nine points on the day.
