Women’s Basketball Defeats Dominican, Takes Control In CACC North

Waterbury, CT – The Post University women's basketball team took sole possession of first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division after a 74-68 win over Dominican in conference play.

With the win, Post moves to 18-9 overall and 13-4 in the CACC. Dominican is now 17-10 overall and 12-5 in the CACC. A win over Felician on Saturday, February 25th will give the Eagles its third straight CACC North Division Regular Season Championship. The Eagles now have won eight of their last ten games.

In the first half, after both teams struggled from the field for the first 1:55, the Eagles finally got on the board on a layup from Taina Pagan. She would go on to score the first nine points for the Eagles, taking a 9-2 lead at the 5:47 mark.

A three from Sha'Raya Haines and a layup by Tyara McQueen put the Eagles up 14-4. Haines and Tyree Allen would both hit a three in the quarter and a layup from Roxkel Washington just before the buzzer put the Eagles up 26-17 after the first.

The Eagles extended its lead to 37-23 at 7:14 second quarter after a layup from Kiara Eubanks. Eubanks had eight points in the quarter on 4-for-8 shooting as the Eagles shot 9-for-17 from the field. The Eagles led 45-34 heading into the half.

The Eagles again took a 14-point lead in the third quarter as Haines hit a three to make it 50-36 at the 8:42 mark. The Chargers, however, countered with a 9-0 behind four points from Alexis Suarez.

Post once again got their leaf back to double digits on a three from Tijanae Simmons and two layups from Eubanks to go back up 57-47 at 3:36. Tyree Allen would go on to score the last five points for the Eagles as they took a 62-53 lead heading into the fourth.

It was a slow start for the Eagles in the fourth, not scoring their first points until the 4:58 mark on a layup from Pagan that put them up 64-57. But the Chargers scored the next seven points tying the game at 64-64 on two free throws from Howard. The Eagles responded with a three from Haines to put the Eagles up 67-64.

After a steal from Haines on the next possession, Simmons hit a fall away jumper in the paint to go up give. Two free throws from McQueen and two from Eubanks sealed the win for the Eagles.

Four players scored in double figures with Pagan leading the way with 15 points to go with nine rebounds. Haines and Allen each had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Eubanks had 14 points and five rebounds. Simmons finished with eight points and McQueen finished with seven points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals off the bench.

Post led the rebound edge, 45-33. The Eagles never trailed in the game.

The two teams split the season series.

Ndukauba led the Chargers with 19 points. Howard had 16.

Prior to the game against Felician on Saturday, the Eagles will host Senior Day.
