Grom Gets First Goal of the Season, Women's Ice Hockey Falls on the Road Against Dartmouth College

HANOVER, N.H. – In what was a second homecoming for Post University Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Gretchen Silverman, who graduated from Dartmouth College back in 1994, the Eagles headed up north for a midweek matchup against the Big Green in Hanover, New Hampshire on Wednesday afternoon, the second time they have faced off since Silverman became head coach of Post last year.

Using an early two goals and then a three-goal second period, Dartmouth would snap their 10-game losing streak while extending the Eagles' to nine straight games, dropping Post by a final score of 7-1.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Dartmouth College 7

Post University (3-15-0)

Dartmouth College (3-11-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Making her first start in net this season, sophomore goalie Hali Lawrence would be tagged for two goals in the opening frame by the Big Green. Lawrence would make 17 stops through 20 minutes, but just 3:23 into the game, sophomore forward Cally Dixon and senior forward Jenna Donohue teamed up to assist on junior forward Laura Fuoco's goal to put Dartmouth in front. Sophomore defenseman Izee Powell and freshman forward Mia Bounarosa would help put the Big Green ahead by two after one when freshman forward Hamilton Doster netted her fourth goal of the season.

After assisting on the first goal of the day which was scored by Fuoco, Dixon would tally a goal of her own in the second period courtesy of Fuoco as well as junior defenseman Kenzie Bachelor to expand the Big Green lead to three goals, 3-0, with 12:21 remaining. Just after the middle of the period passed, Bachelor and junior forward Lauren Messier helped sophomore forward Shae Messner score her sixth goal of the season to increase the lead once more for Dartmouth to 4-0.

The Big Green would dominate the entire middle period, holding a substantial 19-4 edge in shots on goal in which the Eagles would be unable to get their first shot on net until there was 6:57 left from junior defenseman Sajel Desai. However, after that first shot on goal by Desai, sophomore forward Tymmarie Grom would get the Eagles their first goal in four games, breaking a stretch of 214 minutes and 41 seconds without a goal.

Freshman defenseman Dani Ammons and sophomore forward Tristan Currie would each get an assist on the goal which came with 5:57 left in the period to cut the Post deficit to three, 4-1. Messier gave the Big Green a response just over three minutes later when Bachelor and sophomore forward Vanessa Stamper helped Messier put one past Lawrence, extending the Dartmouth lead back to four, 5-1, heading into the third.

En route to her team-leading fifth assist and fifth point of the day, Bachelor would help the Big Green score twice more in the third, both on the power play. The junior alongside Fuoco, who had her second and third assists after scoring earlier, helped Powell tally two goals for Dartmouth following a slashing penalty to freshman forward Celena Mickevicius early in the period and a tripping penalty to junior forward Julia Wysocki in the latter stages of it.

The final period would go quietly for Post, who generated five shots on goal, a single period high against Dartmouth, but were unable to cash in on any of their opportunities in the 7-1 defeat.
