Men's Ice Hockey Stifled on Road By Assumption University

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three unanswered goals for Assumption University would be the undoing for Post University Men's Ice Hockey on the road Saturday evening as the Eagles continue to fight for their first win of the 2023-24 season. After tying the game at one all in the second, the Greyhounds would pull away with that strong third period effort, emerging with a 4-1 victory and a weekend sweep.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Assumption University 4

Post University (0-5-1, 0-3-1 NE10)

Assumption University (7-1-0, 5-1-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Playing in his second straight game of the weekend, junior goalie Drew Blodgett stopped all eight first-period shots he faced from the Greyhounds while freshman goalie Clement Labillois stopped nine shots to keep the game scoreless after 20 minutes. Assumption would have three power plays in that frame, all of which would be shut down by the Eagle defense who was a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill today.

Freshman forward Sean Donoghue got the scoring started for Assumption in the second with 6:33 left when fellow freshman forward Nathan Palumbo found him with a pass to give the Greyhounds a short-lived 1-0 lead as only 3:26 later senior Michael Gethings tied things back up at one. Sophomore forward Jake Aloi and graduate forward Jack Engdahl teamed up for the Gethings' score while Blodgett made 23 stops in net against a strong Greyhounds attack.

That attack by Assumption would eventually produce fruits for their labor as graduate forward Shane Sullivan scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal only 4:09 into the third from sophomore forward Ryan Decker and freshman forward Jonathan Surrette. Surrette would go on to score the fourth goal of the contest which would also be assisted by Decker while Decker would assist on all three third-period goals after getting the secondary one on the third goal scored by freshman forward Leo Piandes.

Labillois would only face four shots from the Eagle offense in the third period as Assumption won their fourth straight game overall against the Eagles, 4-1, on Saturday night in Worcester, Massachusetts.
