Men's Basketball Sweeps CACC Weekly Awards, Women's Volleyball Nets Two to End Regular Season

WATERBURY, Conn. -- As the crossover season begins for Post University Athletics, five different Eagles across two sports would net Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honors with junior outside hitter Caley Harper winning Player of the Week and sophomore libero Alyssa Groves earning Defensive Player of the Week for Post University Women's Volleyball.

Post University Men's Basketball would sweep through the weekly awards as well with junior forward Deng Deang getting both Player and Defensive Player of the Week while freshman point guard Ta'Quan Williams was the Rookie of the Week and junior point guard Bol Akot was named to the Honor Roll.

Caley Harper - Player of the Week - Women's Volleyball
Harper closed out the 2023 regular season with Post University Women's Volleyball with two of her best performances of the year. Totaling up 39 kills on 101 attempts with just nine errors for a .297 hitting percentage, Harper led the team with that mark as well as helped the Eagles go a perfect 2-0 against regionally-ranked Pace University and CACC opponent Georgian Court University. Harper would put up 13 kills on 33 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage during a four-set win over the Setters before exploding for a career-high 26 kills on 68 attempts with a .279 hitting percentage against the Lions on Saturday in a five-set thriller the Eagles would win. Additionally, the junior also tacked on 17 digs, four service aces, and two block solos to account for 45 total points.

Alyssa Groves - Defensive Player of the Week - Women's Volleyball
Groves made history for the Eagles during their 2-0 week to finish up the 2023 regular season. After notching 22 digs against regionally-ranked Pace University, Groves was only seven digs away from 1,000 in only her second year as an Eagle as well as 26 digs away from the single-season record set back in 2004 by Jen Giarratano. With 28 digs against Georgian Court University on Saturday, Groves reached the 1,000 digs mark as well as surpassed Giarratano's record of 583 digs in a five-set win for the Eagles. In total, Groves finished with 50 digs for the week, averaging 5.56 digs per se while also adding 11 assists and a service ace to her resume.

Deng Deang - Player/Defensive Player of the Week - Men's Basketball
Deang came up clutch for Post University Men's Basketball in their 2-0 start to the season at the Saint Rose Tip-Off over the weekend in Albany, New York. Putting up a 23-points, 13-rebound double-double against the University of New Haven on Saturday, the junior helped the Eagles hold off the Chargers late push and win in overtime, 89-85. Deang followed up his debut with another solid performance in an 82-78 victory over Saint Rose on Sunday, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds to finish the week averaging 18.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game as well as going 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

Ta'Quan Williams - Rookie of the Week - Men's Basketball
Williams had a solid start to his Post University Men's Basketball career, shooting an impressive 55% from the floor over the weekend along with 62.5% from three-point land (5-for-8) en route to 29 total points for an average of 14.5 points per game as the Eagles went 2-0 with wins over the University of New Haven and Saint Rose. Williams played in 51 minutes across the two games and also went a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, grabbed six total rebounds, and tallied three assists and steals.

Bol Akot - Honor Roll - Men's Basketball
Akot played all but 10 minutes through the first two games of Post University Men's Basketball's season, helping lead the Eagles to their 2-0 start at the Saint Rose Tip-Off over the weekend. Averaging 21 points per game, six assists per game, shooting 41.4% from the floor, and 72.7% from the free throw line, Akot helped keep Post steady during some tense moments against the University of New Haven to help them win 89-85 in overtime in which he put up 18 points. The junior followed up the performance with a 24-point outing against Saint Rose, hitting a clutch free throw with three seconds left to stave off a late Golden Knights comeback in the 82-78 win for Post.
