Volleyball Drops To Golden Falcons After Five-Set Clash

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Post Women's Volleyball returned to their home court at the Drubner Center this afternoon where they hosted the Golden Falcons of Felician University for a conference bout. The Eagles fought tooth and nail through four sets before losing steam in the fifth and final frame to take the narrow 2-3 defeat.

THE BASICS

Post University 2, Felician University 3

Post University (2-13, 2-4 CACC)
Felician University (5-11, 3-2 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Falcons jumped to a quick 6-1 lead, however Post turned the tables with eight points broken up by a single Felician kill to bring the score to 9-7 in favor of the Eagles. Post commanded the court, holding on strong to their lead before eventually grabbing a nine-point edge, 23-14 before closing out the set thanks to a Caley Harper kill (25-16).

Felician took the initial advantage once again (7-3) as their servers got hot, however, the Eagles chipped away to come within one (9-10) thanks to back to back kills from Colleen Romero and Tamara Radovanov. Not long after, the Golden Falcons rallied to take a double-digit lead (23-12) after a pair of aces brought them within two points of claiming their first set. Post's Hannah Brandt was able to sneak a kill in before their guests secured the second set, 25-13.

Next, the Eagles got off to a hot start in the third, rattling off four point in a row with a pair of kills but the Golden Falcons answered back immediately, taking the 5-4 edge. However, Post was able to reclaim their lead with a four-point run to bring the score to 11-7 before Felician rallied with a kill and a pair of aces to regain the slight 13-12 advantage. The next point, Post was able to knot it up at 13 thanks to a towering Romero kill, catalyzing another four-point run to extend their edge to three (17-14). The Eagles held the lead until the 19th point when the squads went point-for-point, trading the advantage before Felician took the third set, 26-24.

The teams continued to ping-pong points to start off the fourth frame, until a trio of kills from Kaitlyn Sharkey, Brandt and Harper gave the Eagles the biggest advantage of the fourth (12-8). The Golden Falcons attempted to creep back up, tying it up at 18-all before going ahead 24-22 but the Eagles refused to go down as a kill from Harper locked up the score at 24-24 before the squads fought multiple grueling match-points, however, Post was able to come out on top with an exciting 33-31 set win to force a fifth frame thanks to an ace from the hot hands of Harper.

In the last set, the Eagles secured the first point after Radovanov smashed down a kill, however, Felician flipped the script, grabbing a 9-3 lead. Post attempted to come back as a kill from Sharkey followed by an ace brought them within four (6-10), but it wasn't enough as the Golden Falcons went on to score five straight points to edge out their hosts, 3-2.
