Women's Volleyball Falls to Jefferson, Conference Winning Streak Snapped at Three

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- Looking to keep their momentum in conference play vying for their fourth straight win against a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent, Post University Women's Volleyball took on Jefferson University, who entered the day undefeated in the conference this fall, down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Despite a tight opening two sets, the Eagles would be unable to overcome the firepower of the Rams, getting swept for the first time this season in a conference match, 3-0.

THE BASICS

Post University 0, Jefferson University 3

Post University (5-18, 5-6 CACC)

Jefferson University (13-7, 10-0 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A close first set would see five ties and lead changes as both sides would go on a couple of runs before seeing things pull even at 10 all. A 3-0 run for the Rams saw them take the lead for good as junior outside hitter Morgan Ritchie tallied two kills to help her team go ahead, 13-10. The difference maker would come after junior setter Maria Fernanda Branco's kill brought the Eagles within one point, 19-18. Using a 5-0 run which included two more kills for Ritchie to get within one point of the set win which they would get on another Ritchie kill after an attack error from freshman outside hitter Emily McKenna, 25-19.

Out of the gate, the Rams would take the lead and never look back using a 5-1 run to put themselves comfortably ahead of the Eagles. The only run of the set that would pull Post within striking distance was a 3-0 run courtesy of two McKenna errors and a kill from junior outside hitter Tamara Radovanov to make it an 8-6 score. That two-point deficit would be the closest the Eagles would be able to get as Jefferson opened up a lead of up to seven points on three occasions, one of which would get them within a point of the set win. Four straight kills from Post made it a three-point set, 24-21, but junior middle blocker Sam Mann sealed the set with a kill.

Despite attacking at a -.028 in the final set, Post would weather runs of 5-0 and 3-0 by the Rams and respond with a stretch in which they scored six of nine points to keep their deficit at one, 11-10. But Jefferson's response would prove insurmountable for the Eagles as they would rattle off nine of the next 10 points to go ahead by nine points, 21-12. Junior middle blocker Kalen Jordan would get the Rams to 10-0 in conference play with her kill as Jefferson closed the 3-0 win with a 25-14 final set win.
