Women's Soccer Drops Critical Matchup Against Goldey-Beacom on Senior Day

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Honoring seven seniors on Saturday afternoon before their matchup against Goldey-Beacom College at LaMoy Field, Post University Women's Soccer was unable to use their first-half momentum, which included a team-leading fourth goal of the season for senior defender Amber McGee, to get a critical win over the Lightning who they would fall against, 2-1.

The loss keeps the Eagles in 10th place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, six points back of eighth-place Holy Family College which has a game in hand on Post University while the Eagles have just two conference matches remaining on their 2023 schedule.

THE BASICS
Post University 1, Goldey-Beacom College 2

Post University (2-8-3, 1-5-3 CACC)

Goldey-Beacom College (3-5-6, 3-3-3 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
For a majority of the first half, it was a neutral zone battle for both sides with neither being able to take full control of the possession game. Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Campbell would make a few big diving saves in net for the Eagles to keep the score even and they would be rewarded for their patience as the lone shot on goal for Post in the half would get into the back of the net to give them a 1-0 lead.

With her team-leading fourth goal of the season, Amber McGee took a pair of passes from senior midfielder Kaeleigh Serianni and senior forward Hailey McGee on the volley, beating junior goalkeeper Jennifer Mejia in the 45th minute which would send the Eagles into the locker room with the lead.

The lead would be short-lived in the second half as a handball in the box by freshman midfielder Reese Kloetzer would result in a penalty kick taken by senior midfielder Samantha Emmi in the 50th minute who would beat Campbell to the left for the game-tying goal. A few rushes on offense for Post would lead to two shots on net which Mejia would stop and a few throw-ins by Hailey McGee would yield chances in the box that the Eagles would be unable to capitalize on.

Freshman forward Lexy Yeager would connect on the game-winning goal in the 78th minute as she found open space following a pass from junior defender Alex Lowry in the middle of the field. Yeager would sail a high shot just under the crossbar and over the outstretched arms of Campbell, but would be unable to corral it as the Lightning took the lead, 2-1. The last gasp for Post would come in the 85th minute as a free kick from Serianni would be lifted just over the crossbar, just missing the chance at the equalizer as the Eagles fell, 2-1, on Senior Day.
