PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- Still on the outside looking in at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament picture, Post University Women's Soccer looked to pick up a big win against Chestnut Hill College on the road. Coming into the day, the Griffins sat two points ahead of the Eagles in the final spot as the regular season winds down. Behind three second half goals, Chestnut Hill would take the crucial victory, 4-1, sinking Post farther behind the eighth spot in the conference standings.
THE BASICSÂ
Post University 1, Chestnut Hill College 4
Post University (2-7-2, 1-4-2 CACC)
Chestnut Hill College (4-4-1, 3-2-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Linus would get the assist on the first Griffins goal of the afternoon in the 19th minute as she would find senior midfielder Rachel Apsley for the score against freshman goalkeeper
Alexis Campbell making her fourth consecutive start in net for the Eagles. That would be the only score of the first half while on the other end, freshman goalkeeper Ellie Stratz stopped a pair of shots she faced from Post University, hold the Griffins' 1-0 lead heading into the half.
But Chestnut Hill would blitz to start the second half as it would start with an unassisted goal from sophomore midfielder Lauren Sullivan in the 49th minute that extended the Griffin lead to two goals. Within six minutes of each other, Linus would register her two goals of the game with the first one being unassisted before junior forward Elisabeth Stokes found her for the second one to help double the lead to four goals with just over 20 minutes remaining.
For the second straight game, senior forward
Hailey McGee found the back of the net, just under two minutes after Linus' second goal, cutting the Eagle deficit to three, 4-1. However, Stratz would remain strong the rest of the way in net for the Griffins who would hold the lead and go on to win, 4-1, maintaining their playoff positioning for the CACC Tournament.Â
