CONCORD, N.H. -- With a relatively similar squad as a year ago, Post University Men's Tennis looked to kick off their 2023-24 season on a high note on Sunday afternoon against Southern New Hampshire University on the road but were overpowered by the Penmen, falling 6-1, in their fall tune-up match.
THE BASICS
Post University 1, Southern New Hampshire University 6
Post University (0-1)
Southern New Hampshire University (4-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles would drop the doubles point as senior
Niklas Langenfeld and junior
Anton Andersson teamed up for the first time ever in the #1 Doubles but would fall 7-5 against junior Cade Nadeau and senior Jesse Den Hartog. A returning duo from last season, the #2 Doubles of sophomore
Josh Cronje and graduate student
Gustavo Kerber would also drop their match, 6-3, against junior Jonathan Berling and graduate student Aron Ouwejan to solidify the doubles point for the Penmen.
Junior transfer
Dante Despontin played in his first match as an Eagle in the #3 Doubles with junior
Ivan Kolchanov, giving Post University their lone win of the doubles, 7-5, over sophomores Phillipp Roeder and Melvin Vix.
Post University would only be able to muster up one singles win coming from Andersson over Vix in the #4 Singles in three sets, taking set one 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker victory before losing set two 6-4. In the deciding 10-point tiebreaker set, Andersson would steal the victory with a 10-3 win.
However, it would be all Penmen the rest of the way with Berling winning 6-2 and 6-1 over Kerber in the #1 Singles, Den Hartog with a near sweep, 6-1 and 6-0, over Kolchaov in the #2 Singles, and Nadeau with 6-4 and 6-1 wins over Despontin in the #3 Singles.
Langenfeld would retire from his match in the second set against Ouwejan in the #5 Singles and the #6 Singles would go to Roeder, 6-3 and 6-0, against senior
