Women’s Basketball Holds Early Lead, But Lose CACC Game To Chestnut Hill

Waterbury, CT – The Post University women's basketball team lost a 71-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game to Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Post is now 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the CACC and are second in the North Division. Chestnut Hill moved to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the CACC.

Sha'Raya Haines led the Eagles with 18 points, hitting four three-pointers to go with four assists and five rebounds. Roxkel Washington had right points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles held an 18-16 lead after the first quarter after giving up the first five points of the game. Post would then go on a 12-2 run as Tyara McQueen and Jailah White both scored five points during the stretch that gave Post its biggest lead of the game. After the Griffins scored the next seven points and took a 14-12 lead, Post scored the next four on baskets by Jamie Waldron and Haines. Waldron closed out the quarter with two free throws to give the Eagles the two point lead into the second quarter.

The Griffins had a small 24-22 lead in the second quarter before going on a 10-2 run to take a 34-24 lead for their biggest lead of the half. They'd go in leading 34-27 as the Eagles scored just nine points in the quarter.

Chestnut Hill extended its lead to nine after Abbey Spratt hit a jumper to begin the second half, but a three from Haines followed by a fastbreak layup from McQueen cut the Eagles' deficit to 36-32. The Griffins scored the next eight points as Spratt and Morgan Orloski hit threes to make it a 42-32 score with 5:22 remaining. Chestnut Hill led by as much as 15 before going into the final quarter with a 53-40 lead. Haines scored nine of the Eagles' 18 points in the third.

In the fourth, the Eagles were unable to trim the deficit enough, getting only as close as ten points (69-59) the rest of the way. Post went 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the quarter.
McQueen and Waldron each had eight points in the game.

The Eagles outrebounded the Griffins, 47-35.

The Eagles and Griffins are now tied 8-8 in the all-time series.

Four players scored in double figures for Chestnut Hill, led by Emily Chmiel with 19. She also had a team-high six rebounds. Orloski scored 12 and Spratt and Siobhan Boylan both scored ten.

Up next, the Eagles will host Caldwell at the Drubner Center on January 10 at 5:30 p.m.
