Bridgeport, CT – The Post University women's basketball team had its best offensive performance of the season in a 100-61 win over the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North action.
Five players scored in double figures for the as
TiJanae Simmons and
Tyara McQueen each scored 21 points off the bench.
Taina Pagan scored 16,
Tyree Allen had 13, and
Sha'Raya Haines had 12.
It was the third straight win for the Eagles, who are now 13-8 overall and 8-3 in the CACC and now sit in first place in the North Division. Bridgeport is now 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the CACC.
The 100 points were the most the Eagles scored this season and the most since the 2019-20 season when they scored 101 points in a win over Goldey-Beacom in the 2019-2020 season.
Post fell behind 18-9 in the first half after a three from Bridgeport's Amani Melendez at the 4:55 mark, but the Eagles finished the quarter on a 17-2 run, including three consecutive three point field goals as Simmons hit one followed by two more from McQueen – including the first one to give them their first lead – to make it a 24-20 Eagles lead. Haines capped off the run with a buzzer beating jumper to put the Eagles up 26-20 heading into the second.
The second quarter continued the way the first quarter ended as the Eagles took its first double-digit lead of the game at 32-22 after back-to-back threes from McQueen and Haines. Post didn't allow a field goal for the final 8:26 of the quarter as Pagan scored six points and the Eagles went 6-for-11 from three to go up 52-28 at the half. Post held Bridgeport to just 3-for-12 shooting (25 percent) in the quarter while the Eagles shot 47.6 percent(10-for-21).
Post's hot shooting did not cool off to start the second half, in fact it got hotter, as Post shot 8-for-14 from the field (57.1 pct) and McQueen and Simmons each had seven points in the quarter and
Kiara Eubanks scored five as the Eagles led by as much as 37 points and once again stymied Bridgeport, who shot just 3-for-13 from the field in the quarter.
Post increased its lead to 44 points in the final quarter and were never in danger of losing the lead behind six points from
Jayden Burns and eight more from Simmons in the quarter.
Aside from their total points, the Eagles set other season-highs, including hitting 14 of their 27 three-pointers, making 36 field goal attempts and shooting a season-high 52.2 percent from the field. In the Eagles' two wins over Bridgeport this season, they have shot 51.9 percent (70-for-135) from the field.
McQueen's 21 points were a season-high as she shot 5-for-8 from three while also grabbing six rebounds off the bench. Simmons had her second game of the season with 20 or more points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field, including 5-for-7 from three to go with seven rebounds. Pagan finished with a team-high eight rebounds to go with two blocks. Allen added five rebounds and four assists. Haines had five rebounds and five assists to go along with her 12 points.
Burns and Eubanks both scored six points.
Rebecca Fraley scored five.
Melendez finished with a team-high 26 points for Bridgeport and went 5-for-7 from three.
