Haines Scores 30 As Women's Basketball Holds Off Late Rally From Goldey-Beacom

Waterbury, CT - Sha'Raya Haines scored a season-high 30 points and the Post University women's basketball team held off a late rally from Goldey Beacom College in a 75-73 win at the Drubner Center in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

The win was the second straight for the Eagles who are now 12-8 overall and 7-3 in the CACC. Goldey-Beacom falls to 7-12 overall and 4-5 in the CACC.

After the Eagles scored the first four points of the game on baskets by Taina Pagan and Haines, the Lightning went on a 12-2 run to take an early six point lead behind seven points from Alexis Harrison. Two threes from Haines sandwiched by a layup from Harrison cut Post's deficit to 14-12 with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter. Goldey-Beacom held the Eagles to two points the rest of the quarter before taking a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.

In the second, the Post defense took over, holding the Lightning to 1-for-17 shooting and forcing seven turnovers. Haines scored nine points in the quarter, while Tijanae Simmons had seven. The Eagles went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line as Haines and Simmons both went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, putting the Eagles up 34-26 at halftime.

Post extended its lead to 52-41 after three as Tyree Allen, Simmons and Tyara McQueen all hit threes and once again the Eagles made the most of their attempts at the free throw line, hitting nine of their ten attempts. Rory Ciskowski scored seven points in the quarter for Goldey-Beacom.

The Eagles led by as much as 14 in the fourth at 58-44 as a three from Allen and three points from Roxkel Washington increased the lead. Goldey-Beacom gradually chipped away using the free throw line to their advantage and cutting the Eagles lead to 71-68 with ten seconds left after a layup from Mone Izumi.

A free throw by Haines put the Eagles back up two before Izumi answered with a jumper. With five seconds left Allen sank two big free throws as Izumi hit a three with one second left to make it a 74-73 Post lead. Haines was then fouled and hit the second of two free throws. Pagan would steal the inbounds pass to seal the win.
