Big Third Quarter Helps Women’s Basketball Pull Away From Felician

Rutherford, N.J. – The Post University women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to propel the Eagles to a 63-47 win over Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game.

Post is now 11-8 overall and 6-3 in the CACC and are in second place in the North Division. Felician moves to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference

The Eagles led 34-27 heading into the third quarter and quickly began to put the game out of reach, outscoring the Golden Falcons, 13-4 over the first 5:31 in the second half as Sha'Raya Haines hit two three-pointers while Taina Pagan scored seven points to give the Eagles a 47-31 lead. Pagan would score nine points in the quarter and Tyara McQueen scored the final five points of the quarter for Post.

Post led by as much as 23 points in the third and went into the fourth leading 57-36. The Eagles held Felician to just 17.7 percent shooting (3-for-17) in the third.

The Eagles increased its lead to 25 in the fourth after a three from McQueen, and Felician never got closer than 16 the rest of the way. Post allowed just one field goal over the final 4:12 of the game.

The game started off with Felician taking an early 6-2 lead before the Eagles finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead. Jailah White hit a three and Pagan scored five points in the quarter.

Both teams caught fire in the second quarter, as the Eagles shot 8-for-15 (53.33 pct) and the Golden Falcons shot 8-for-11 (72.3 pct). The Eagles hit three three-pointers from McQueen, Haines and White, while, Catherine Lecop hit two threes for and Katelyn Andres scored five of her team-high 20 points for Felician.

Pagan finished with a team-high and season-high 16 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Haines stuffed the box score with 15 points, three rebounds, seven assists and four steals. McQueen went 3-for-7 from three off the bench and finished with 15 points to go with five rebounds. White had 11 points and four rebounds. Jayden Burns had seven rebounds and three steals.

Post went 15-for-18 from the free throw line. Post outrebounded Felician, 30-29.

Post has now won five of the last six games against Felician, the most recent two by an average of 15 points.

The Eagles forced 19 turnovers – including 11 steals - leading to 19 points.

Up next, the Eagles will host Goldey-Beacom at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 21 at the Drubner Center.
