Slow Start In First Half Hurts Women’s Basketball In Loss To Holy Family

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Post University women's basketball team lost a 56-34 contest to Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon.

Post moves to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in the CACC. Holy Family is now 13-5 overall and 7-0 in the CACC.

Sha'Raya Haines led the Eagles with 13 points, and Taina Pagan led Post with ten rebounds and four blocks.

The Eagles got off to a slow start in the first quarter, not scoring their first points until the 4:04 mark on a jumper from Pagan. Holy Family took a 17-4 lead after the first as the Tigers shot 8-for-17 from the field and the Eagles just 2-for-17.

Haines scored all nine points for the Eagles in the second quarter, but the Tigers maintained their 13-point lead, going up 26-13 at the half. The Eagles held the Tigers to 1-for-11 shooting in the second quarter, including 0-for-4 from three.

Post never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way as Holy Family extended its lead to 41-22 at the end of the third.

The Eagles defense held Holy Family to just 32.8 percent shooting, its third lowest output of the season. Post shot 20 percent from the field.

Led by Pagan, the Eagles won the rebound battle, 51-45.

Kiara Eubanks finished with six points for Post.

Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by Taylor Hinkle, who scored 14, including six in the first quarter. Ava Morrow had 11 points and Skyler Searfoss had ten points and 11 rebounds.  

Up next, the Eagles will head to Felician to take on the Golden Falcons in a CACC North tilt on Tuesday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m.
