Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team began its quest for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) title by defeating Jefferson, 11-3 on the first day of the double elimination portion of the tournament.
The Eagles are now 23-25 on the season.
Once again, it was the bat of All-CACC First Team member Robert Olah who set the tone offensively for the Eagles as he hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead at the time. Post added one more in the inning on an RBI groundout.
Post increased its lead to 6-1 on a two-run double from Chris Corchado in the bottom of the third before the Rams cut the game to 6-3 in the top half of the fourth.
All-CACC Second Team member Chas Cywin only allowed one base runner over the final three innings. Cywin threw seven innings with seven strikeouts, allowing just three runs – two earned – on five hits and a walk.
The Eagles added two more runs in the eighth. The first on a dropped third strike to Hunter Keller that was thrown away by the catcher. A wild pitch would then score Michael Pavelchak who singled earlier in the inning.
Post put the game away for good in the bottom of the eighth as the Eagles hit three consecutive RBI singles – all with two outs - from Olah, Jordan Glazer and Evan Cornwell, making it an 11-3 game.
Cywin earned the win and is 3-2 on the season.
Olah finished the day 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. Corchado was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Glazer was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Keller and Jimmy Brennan also scored two runs on the day.
Up next, the Eagles will play Wilmington on Friday at 11 a.m. Wilmington defeated Felician 11-8 during the first game on Thursday. The winner will move on to Saturday. The loser will take on Felician at 2 p.m. on Friday in an elimination game.
